to add insult to injury, I've just been out to the car to havea look at the new windscreen......

barsteward didn't fit the seal correctly....   it's sitting on top of the glass down both sides....

phoned their office, and complained....     they're sending someone out within the hour... fair play to the boss, he sounded distinctly put out with the fitter......      but it's going to bugger my school run at 3.

NOT frigging amused

As in it sits about 4-5mm proud down the left and right side......if so that is correct.

errr.....   the last one didn't sit like this.....

the inner rim of the seal, that, as i recall, is supposed to fit along the edge of the glass, is sitting on the front, and then the main front lip is obviously best part of a centimetre proud of the glass itself...     and the whole thing can be freely moved around....   and be pulled clear of the screen altogether....

one trip thru a car wash would rip the whole lot off.....

okay, the man's been.... and on one side, Mark was right... it's the rain channel,. but on the other side, I was right... it was loose....  they've glued it in "properly" and it should be good to go in about 45 minutes....

just in time for the school run !

Vandalism is one terrible factor in our lives today, and the lack of real tradesmen is another.

Everything these so called trademens do, beit in the motor industry, building / construction field or IT industry in my experience has to be checked as with this windscreen!  Why should this be so? >:( >:(

It makes you bloody mad, especially as it is  never cheap to employ them!  >:( >:(  I have reminded myself why I have always tried to do many jobs myself!  Especially when, as a women, you are often faced with some spotty mechanic trying to tell you something that you know is a load of bxxlxxks! >:( >:(

That's my rant over! ;D

It happens to blokes too Lizzie don't worry. I recall an amusing trip to a local tyre place for a new set and being called over to the car by the fitter asking me if I was aware of the problem with the brakes. Apparently the discs were far too hot and there was a strange lip at the edge of the disc. Idiot.

Sorry to hear about the vandalism, I'm all for a spot of mob justice in retribution for damage caused. Punishments to fit the crime and all that, take a brick/hammer to various bits of their bodies and see how they like it.

Agreed. I dread having anything done by anyone these days. Never will you get what you want first time without a load of aggro, so I count myself lucky that I can turn my hand to most things.

Problem is, people think they can command silly money to do any job with about half an hour's training these days. The fact is, unless you're incredibly gifted, any job takes practice before you can master it, and even then, you have to take pride in it to produce consistently good quality.

Quite often, organisations promote cr@p work by rewarding fast work rather then quality work, and by failing to ensure that, if a customer is not satisfied, someone gets a b0110ck1ng.

Not all "tradesmen" are incompetent, OR indeed over priced....

despite today's drama, i'm still well disposed towards the company in question...    (Auto Screens of Aylesbury) ....   they sorted out my concerns in double quick time, courteously and efficiently,
screen fitted today was £173.90 inc VAT.

(let just say I've also changed insurance this weekend,. after finding out our policy had no Glass cover...   despite being fully comp.... lesson learned....  read the small print....  carefully , if it seems to good to be true it probably is.... Tesco insurance.. avoid like the plague...    )

which to be fair is a full £200 LESS than Autoglass quoted...

Glad it's been resolved to your satisfaction, Max, and that's not a bad price, as you say. Mental note to check my policy for glass cover. Not very "comprehensive" if that's omitted. :o

Bottom line is that

1) They screwed the job up

2) They didn't even check the work before leaving

Thats good service but crap quality, price or not (the price is average for an independent by the way as I was quoted 110 for the glass and 30 quid fitting + VAT on my old estate) it should have been right first time and not needed a further visit.

The result is yet again you cant trust a tradesman anymore to do a good job and check thier own work.

Recently had my windscreen changed by Autoglass - £60 excess on Insurance - I was well pleased with the work. They even had a hosepipe playing on all the seams with a guy inside watching for leaks. No complaints from me so far :)

:o I`m shocked and disgusted!....
It would seem this is the price we`re paying for two generations of certain people`s idea of 'free and easy' (hands-free) parenting; selfishness, zero-respect and nil-personal responsibility.
...and I bet if you`d seen the perpetrator and dealt with him/her accordingly, it would be YOU under arrest not they.

 >:( I`m angry for you MaxV6  >:(

Some years ago my son was visiting us one night and found this guy doing drugs in our front garden, my son just smacked him and flung him out the gate..my son was just opening the front door when this guy came running at him with a knife..and plunged it into his shoulder, well to cut it short when my son tried to claim criminal compensation he was told he was partly to blame for his injuries as he had forcible ejected the druggie from our premises so didn't qualify.

The druggie did a year of a 18 month sentence...he would have been better doing the whole stretch, because the day after he was released I saw him and he had a head the size of a water melon.

He thought he could strut his stuff in the pub my son uses...how wrong he was.
