Flywheels... DMF v Normal
« on: 06 February 2013, 12:16:35 »

I know I'm opening the proverbial can'o'worms but has anyone ever successfully done the DMF to normal flywheel and clutch conversion?  I've been nosing around the web using the search on here, Mig & VXON but i cant seem to find anyone thats actually done it - just threads and posts about doing it!

Found this on the Courtney site too.... http://www.courtenaysport.co.uk/buy-online/shop-by-category/steel-billet-flywheels/lightweight-flywheel-v6-vectra-b-cavalier-calibra/prod_29.html

I have done.. using single mass flywheel (from a vectra 2.5) machined it and without problems..

ps: lightened flywheels will have a positive effect on acceleration but for daily usage it will increase consumption (they say) :-\

Do you have any more information on what you've done?

How does it feel when driven compared to a DMF Miggy?

I believe he's used a 2 litre and a 2.5 Vectra clutch with spacer with great effect

I'm sure he'll be able to tell you.
2Woody is bound to have an opinion and don't start Jamie on Courtenay............

I'm fitting a C20LET flywheel (9 - 9,5 kilos) and clutch to my x30xe now, witch is going in this spring  :D
Heard good and bad, the reason i choose the c20let instead of courtenay is to not lighten it too much and it was cheap.
It will increase HP but decrease torque, is what i've heard so the engine won't be as tough as before?
courtenay themselves say you will get some gearbox noise

Can you confirm or deny any of this cem?

nothing special.. surface cleaned (cut ) and the machining shop adjusted the new clutch set (use some pressure on the metal legs) .. thats it.. and was fitted directly..

Nothing unusual .. may be a little more vibration at idle than dmf setup when engine is cold..

actual dmf was  heavy ..  vectra 2.5 smf also not that different..  but I cant remember the weights honestly.. I ask the machine shop to lighten it.. they said your fuel will increase.. only machined it slightly..will look for the pictures

The weight of the original dmf is 15kg
I'm guessing the first pic is dmf an the others are smf

the reason for change is the mad prices of dmf and its clutch..

And the fact they are completely unreliable.  Standard Single Mass FTW!

it was a manual.. but dont know the year as I bought the flywheel from scrappy :)  no need to buy new as its cheapo and can be machined easily (although I dont know machining prices there)
