Went into local B&Q today to get some more paint. As i went in an old man dressed in black trousers and an orange apron asked me if i wanted decking.
Fortunately, i got the first punch in and knocked him out!
Just thought i would pass this warning on. :y

Heard it before but it still makes me smile ;D ;D ;D

Not strictly true...  I currently LIVE around Oxford, and , to be fair, my teenage years were spent here also...

but much of the rest of my life has been in wales....

more of it than here.....

Being half Italian , Half Miner/Sheep botherer/Rygbi player....     i can be a little complicated  :D

Cymraeg is one of the languages in which the  word for English, is also a fairly serious insult :D

(well, to be fair...  A word, since it's a rather complicated language, with many mutations and alternatives)

It`s interesting that in the U.K there are only two languages recognised 'equally' by the British State; English and Welsh.
In theory a Welsh speaker anwhere in the U.K can legally require official correspondence (Employment/Council/Court/Police/Tax/NHS etc.) with them, to be in Welsh; even if they are the only Welsh speaker in the village....and if required; by a monoglot (Welsh-only speaker) 'one-on-one' translations must be provided (as necessary) at public expense!  :-?

something which would mortally offend or hugely amuse several of my relatives, probably in equal measure...    :D

there are , quite seriously, some people in a few of the villages I know, who could really be counted as monoglots....    it's not so much that they cannot understand english, more that they cannot be understood by the English....      ;D

You`d be surprised Martin!.........I know of several monoglots hereabouts and one or two, whom have used (dishonestly) the assertion of their lack of adequate English language skills as a ploy when in court or dealing with 'officialdom' as the need for cumbersome-translation 'may' mean they are taken down an 'easier path' (if you know what I mean)....seems to work too!  :(

I have the phone numbers of several .

Sadly, these days I usually rely on the family grapevines....   even though I was moderately fluent...  over the last 7 years my ear has become unaccustomed to the speed and depth of accent....   making it progressively harder for me to cope with a conversation with them....

and no i'm not going deaf....
