well i`ve done it now i`ve accepted the new job offer from my mates security firm and i`ve got to hand in my notice to comet now i wonder if they will just let me go or make me work my notice?? it will be a different type of work but i`m up for a new challenge and i`ll know when i`ll be getting home of a night or day for once....

In the retail trade as a manager it was often far safer to let someone go before serving their full notice, as in theory and sometimes in practice they could do significant damage to the business i.e. insult customers; pursuade them to go elsewhere, or (the main problem) steal money or/and stock!  

Not of course suggesting you would, but that is a very REAL problem in the trade I spent 40 years in!

I suspect they will not make you work your notice. Once you decide to leave there is little point in staying as your mind will be elsewhere.

I didnt bother giving notice as i could see nothing to lose, I'd worked right upto the cut off date of pay, boss changed my days off to the first two of the following week, giving time for my months wage to be irreversably processed while i was still technically employed, i was due no holiday pay, so I just didnt turn in on the wednesday when i was meant to, it was common knowledge thru gossip that i'd be unlikely to return!

the company got took over anyway so they had bigger things to worry about!

As many of you may or may not know, I work for the biggest global drinks supplier.

I do not particularly enjoy my job, but, I have one of the best pensions on the market, and the people I work with are great.

I would adore a different job, but using that brain thing It makes the most sense to stay and indulge myself in hobbies. e.g. Miggy and whisky.

i`ve handed my notice into the otm as the hdp manager was not in today as she was having some personal time with her daughter..i was asked to reconsider as he did not want to lose his best driver as he put it...my response was no thank you and left it at that...i will only have to work this saturday and sunday anyway as i`m off for 3 days now and i want to get stuff done round the house and front drive...i`m a little cog in the big wheel of life and i want to take it easy for a bit.. plus i just realised the security office is next too maccy d`s they do free wi-fi.....

What type of security is it?

I used to work for a couple of security firms a good few years ago, I worked on a couple of films and tv programmes. Close protection and general guard duties.
