M Reg Mondeos!
« on: 08 May 2008, 20:53:33 »

I've noticed ever since buying my (I think) pretty good nick '95 Elite Estate that cars of the same age aren't a patch on the miggy and Mondeos seem to be the worst culprits! Is it just me or has anybody else noticed this? Is it that miggys wear well or that a certain type of person tends to own them? Your thoughts!

Humpy

PS With apologies to any '95 Mondeo owner :)

Yes, and my way almost every Mondeo you see has patched up bumpers!  :-? :-?

Mondeos in those days were unexciting anyway, and I believe they are unloved now ;D!

Now't wrong with Mondoe's, are you not comparing chalk to cheese here, yes Miggy's are better then a same age Mondoe, but then are Merc, Audi's and BMW a lot better then the Miggy  ::) :y

Lizzie, yes patched up bumpers, you seen them too! It's not just me then.

BM's Merc's and Audi's were more money so they should be in good nick. Plus they belonged to money people and money people tend to look after their kit.

Yes that is very true Humpy, and Mondeos were frequently company cars used as work horses everyday over high mileage; I know because (briefly) I am ashamed to say I had such a company car (after having Carlton's) and hated it :'( :'(!!

I think the vast majority of Sierras, Mondeos, Cavaliers and Vectras were LX/LS rep spec specials and after their 3 years of careful  ::) sales rep ownership with such modest  ::) mileages they were then sold on at your average 'car warehouse' as a quality 'pre-owned' car.

It's testiment to their durability that 14 year old, monster mileage cars are still around now IMHO

Lizzie,

Always had Vauxhalls and recently Opels. Of course most modern Vauxhalls are Opels anyway with German build quality. My first car was a Viva 1800 SL and was quite plush against my mate's Escort Mk2 Popular :)

I had 1 Cavalier 2.0 and 3 Vectra 2.0 that all went back with over 150K on them after their three years!

Indeed!  Ford always did skimp on the 'luxuries' in their cars.  With my first brand new Escort Mk1 a radio wasn't even fitted and there was no space purposely given in the dash for one!  You had to install one on brackets under the front passenger 'parcel shelf'! ;)

The only problem with the Viva's was they rusted to pieces all too quickly, especially in the front wings! ;D ;D

My Cavalier's and Carlton's did that type of mileage in no more than two years, with indeed a 2.0 CD version of the latter doing 148k in 18 months travelling across the UK! :y
