O.K. 'Fess up ' time.. I hear what all of you are saying, and have heard it before, 'many times', and have whipped myself about it, (to the point that I'm beginning to like it

) October 2012. Auxiliary belt 'let go', wound itself up the crank between the timing belt and pulley. Lots of lovely bent valves. (G.M. learnt their lesson after the safe engine on the Carlton.) Car was stuck in Bedford, and had to get it moved PDQ as it was outside a school entrance. Got a mate with a small one lift garage to come and look, and another mate to trailer it to first mate's garage. Contacted Daz for help with problem as he had just serviced it 3 days prior. (not related to auxiliary belt, no blame attached to Daz.)
He agreed to work on it. The bloke who usually does my Miggy was in Sicily at this time. Mate at garage told me he could do the work and would start stripping it immediately. I ended up annoying Daz as, not only had he put himself out for me, but had sourced heads as well. Then I told Daz what my mate was up to, this infuriated him even further as apparently my mate was not following correct procedure. Went to mate with advice from Daz, passed it on to him, result ? Toe to toe confrontation. Mainly about the timing belt pulley on the crankshaft. Daz had told me to tell him, ' you MUST NOT remove that pulley, in the event it is inescapable you must use a crank locking tool', this advice was echoed by Elite Pete, 'thing is Rob, if he tries to remove that without locking the crank, he will break the woodruff key'.
Went along to the garage. 'Hey Rob, I have got that pulley off but, whoever worked on this engine before has broken the woodruff key inside the pulley'. YEAH Vince, course they did?

I order a new pulley from Vauxhalls. SEVEN weeks later after scouring all of England AND Germany, 'sorry mate, cannot find a pulley'.
Steve at Omegaspares to the rescue.. Pulley ?? Vauxhalls = 0. Steve = 7 in stock.
Mate at garage asked for £580 to get heads skimmed etc, parted with £580. Work being done at very well respected T&L Engineering. 8 days later I phone T&L, 'how much longer before I get my heads back' ?? He NEVER brought them HERE mate, just came for a quote aint seen him since. Toe to toe time again.
Mate is back from Sicily and asks about problem? Thieving mate at garage suggests man from Sicily finishes job. He reluctantly agrees and puts the old girl back together.
Drive off for test drive, she ran like a dream, fill up with LPG, car won't go over 30mph??? No-one understands routing of injectors. Very much appreciated help by PM from LazyDocker. But still they can't figure it out? Take it to a local LPG installer. 'I don't do those systems, but I'll have a look'. His 'look' was to continue working on other cars while giving man from Sicily suggestions. 4 hours later, armed with a copy of instructions from LazyDocker, I show them the PM. 45 minutes later I am driving off.
At this time we are getting ready to move to Lincoln. I have had the old girl back for 2 weeks. Our move is 7 days away. I pay a mate £150 to trailer my wife's Rover 75 to Lincoln so I would have a 'backup' car there. Wife doesn't drive anymore due to M.S. Rover delivered, head back to Bedford. Steady run along the A.1. nearing St. Neots strange noise from engine. Say to son, 'we'll take it real steady till we get home'. 200 metres before St. Neots slip road. " BANG" everything dies

Coast down to roundabout, wait for Rover trailer man to come out and trailer Miggy home. Only 10 miles. 'Another £20'. Panic sets in.
Rover now in Lincoln. Miggy dead. Cougar on the drive with no tax, no MOT, no insurance. Contact Daz again. He is still prepared to help ?? I agree to get it trailered to him 130 miles away, plus I am moving to Lincoln in 6 days time and I have all the packing to do. I hire a van so I can get about and get things done. Blo*dy hectic week, cash getting low, man with trailer is interested in my Cougar for his son, but aint got £600. I tell him that if he trailers my Miggy to Stoke I will give him the Cougar. Deal is done. The next morning the Cougar is gone. The night before trailering to Daz is due, another mate says, get it to my garage and I promise I'll sort it for you. That was mid November. Contact Daz, he is most pleased with me? I was relieved he lives so far away...

At least I was still in one piece.
Trailer man took Miggy 10 miles to garage. A £600 car for trailering 10 miles.. Now where is that invisible to me sign on my forehead ?? Collect my RD 500 from Flitwick motorcycles pay my £980 bill. Collect my son's Gilera from repairers, pay the £250 bill. Move to Lincoln, return van and pay my £250 bill. Get the Rover insured and try to settle down. Cold weather sets in, gets freezing, Rover heater decides to pack up. Park it up on the drive. Hi Rob,(lincs Robert) fancy selling me your Elite? Deal done. Back on the road. Keep trying to contact bloke with my Miggy, no luck.
February arrives, speak with a bloke with a garage next to the one my Miggys at. No-one has even opened the bonnet on your car. I asked if he would take a look? 4 hours later he phones me. 'The bloke who put this back together forgot to tighten up the bolts on the top pulleys backing plate, they have been steadily creeping forward until the belt has come off'.

I can't go after the ex mate who did the job as it was a 'homer'.. Decided to take Daz's original suggestion and contacted Steve, ordered the 2x 3.2 heads he had. They arrived at the bloke's workshop. He phoned me instantly. 'Listen Rob, I have just unpacked these heads and one has been damaged, a bit has broken off, looks like someone has dropped it'? OMG...

That was a week ago, and if you have got this far reading. 'WELL DONE'. But I can't go on...
