Indian food
« on: 14 March 2013, 19:53:59 »

Until a couple of months ago I wasn't a lover of Indian food, however I've had a couple of takeaways and a couple of visits to restaurants lately and am loving the stuff.

I made a chicken phal last week that swmbo couldn't eat as it was too hot but I loved it. She's more into the Korma but its too creamy for me.
There seems to be so many styles/sauces that being a novice I haven't a clue what to go for. I had Sri Lanka chicken the other night, it was pretty good.

And peshwari naan is surely food of the gods! Fantastic stuff!!

So what do you guys chomp on?

Jalfrezi is my normal choice, but I have been known to wander :)  Not over keen with stuff with too much coconut or cream in it, I find they tend to be too sweet. I do find that in a decent restaurant, talking to the waiter and asking advice has often got me really, really nice stuff that I wouldn't normally try ... always worth a try :)

My problem is my Grandfather was with the Foreign Office/Embassy Service in India for over 20 years, Mum and 3 of her sisters all born out there, and when he retired to live in the UK he (and Grandmother) bought back their ayah as a friend/cook as she had been with them 20 odd years and had no other life. Lovely old dear, and boy could she cook, nothing was ever measured it was just abit of this and some of that .. but it tasted divine, and I remember eating it as far back as the age of 10 ... so I was a bit spoilt really ...

However, it does simply prove that a good Curry is God's gift to mankind  :y :y :y :y

Chicken or Lamb balti but ask for it spiced up a bit, tons of flavour and a nice bit of heat. Or if I am in a different mood Chicken Chilli garlic ,you can't tell what you are crunching a big cob of garlic or a crazy chilli  :o

I'm bleeding starving now :'(

I love curries, especially Vindaloo, going with Phal is really at the top end and some restaurants serve this as liquid fire!  However as I get older I usually stay with the relatively mild Ceylon or Madras for the flavour.  There is such a fabulous range of dishes and heat levels that you can never get bored with them, sod it now I am feeling hungry.

I don't do really hot stuff, I love it,  but I need loads of Ranitidine afterwards

For me Chicken Tikka Roghan, Sag Bhaji, Keema Nan. Spelling changes from restaurant to restaurant. Not quite every time, but almost ! Boring but yummy ! PLUS . . . . a few pints of Mongoose beer   :y     :y

Nom Nom Nom... Curry! ::) ::) ::)

I'm quite partial to a Ceylon too, although have been considering branching out and seeing what the waiter recommends :-\ :-\

Unfortunately I don't get as many curries in as I would like as SWMBO is severely allergic so it tends to just be a treat occasionally :'( :'(

Don't forget popadoms & pickles for starters mango chutney lime pickle, raita & chopped onions gets the flavour buds tingling!! I am also partial to vindaloo, my local curry house (who know me well ) always refer to their phal as chicken domestos I am rather fond of that as well, in fact I just love an Indian ..

My favourite popadoms and pickles, prawn puri starter, chicken vindaloo, with pilau rice and keema naan. Home made or a takeaway.  :y :y :y

At home I often also make a chicken and pineapple curry, which is very moreish.  :y :y :y
