VIC check
« on: 29 March 2013, 22:20:08 »

If a car has been a cat D and needs a vic done, is the current mot void?
How do you know if the insurance company has actually registered the car a cat D?

Yes mot void.

Registered with Dvla. Check the web site with v5 details. (I think)

Ah, if its not yours you won't have v5 to check that vehicle, so hpi check.

Cat D is bog all. Insurance covers use to vic check, then once mot'd your away.

If it fails the identity check then you will be responsible for it, not the person you bought it from. Personally I would want to see evidence of the damage so that the repair can be given a fair appraisal  :y

QuiteVery strong money given you can't use it until the VIC is done. Would need to be presented with a new MoT as well iirc :-\

Looks clean enough, but no MoT, no tax and no suggestion as to when the cambelt was done last :-\ without those three things, I doubt it's actually worth £500 max ignoring the VIC issue. Also given the mileage, the hbv is probably due along with an atf change :-\

Repair possibly bodged as the lower grill on the bumper has been painted, but with no 'before' pics, who knows :-\

Just too many things to go wrong with that sale imho. :(

Tax and mot expire tomorrow so wont be able to drive car even on a test and given they are expired no insurance either. :o

Assuming it passes the vic inspection both the above need doing so could fail on anyhting.Guy says he is too busy to get it done..but not too busy to sell it  ::)....I would steer well clear until it is atleast road legal then and only then negotiate on that price quite hard as your own insurance may not be happy taking on a cat C car either. ;)

Worth £300 as an opening bid, but be lucky if it's actually worth what is being asked with MoT and tax :-\

Have asked as much...

I have a few questions for you...
1. When was the cambelt last changed?
2. Do you have any pictures of the car before the accident and also before the repair?
3. How long have you owned it?
4. Given the fact that it has no MoT/needs a VIC, and might not pass either test and has no tax, did you have a realistic price in mind?

Will probably get told to 'Go away nicely '  ::)

Have seen pictures of the damage.
Cam belt done twice, last one at 76k in 2009
he won't budge with getting check done.
Repair was with 2nd hand parts.
Oil cooler also done
I like the colour combo
Cat C is a worry with no vic
New mot is given when the vic is done.

To be clear then, it's due another cambelt (4years), but biggest concern is the VIC or lack of. If the seller won't do it, then that strongly suggests something is wrong with it. At least if it was a realistic price and all went Pete Tong, then it could be broken to recover some of the cost :-\

The damge caused was only bodywork according to pictures and also had the rad replaced but no mention of aircon rad or any associated aircon parts.

Does the vic test get done seperate from an mot or are they just rolled into 1.

Unsure what a new insurance companies views would be taking on the insurance cover..so that is also another thing to factor .

The cambelt and Tensioner had been replaced twice
26-11-2006 at 43,557 miles
01-11-2010 at 73,297 miles

According to the seller but yet to see written evidence ???

VIC is totally separate and is ONLY a check of the repaired vehicles identity, and nothing at all to do with the quality of the repair. Hence my concern :y

Already giving conflicting answers about the cambelt then :-\

Just to add, I have no issue with damage repaired cars, mine is a Cat C car, with nothing to hide. Yes it's a nuisance to deal with, but is booked on line, takes about 30 mins, and if nothing to hide is really no big deal.
Being too busy is a pish excuse ::)
