Hi guys. for some reason my wipers have started moving further and further up the windscreen when i turn them off. then when i turn them on again they move back down to the bottom of the windscreen before they go back up and wipe the window. this is starting to bug me now. does anybody have any idea what is causing this? Thanks

The circular motion of the motor is converted to a forward & backward motion via an arm fixed to the motor spindle. The nut that holds this arm to the spindle has come loose ...... often caused by starting wipers while they're frozen to the screen 
You need to remove the whole mechanism (4 self tappers & be very careful of the paint on top of your driver's wing as it all comes out) & set the arm between the 2 marks ......  >      < .... cast into the ally frame.

My money's on AndyB's post being your answer, but it is worth checking tightness of 13mm nuts holding blades to rotating shafts first.  Although unlikely both would be loose by same amount

If they'd slipped on the shafts, the wipers would be trying the wipe the scuttle or the driver's door window

Ok thanks. Bit of a pain. can it be done without removing it from the car? 

I've never tried, but I seem to remember that someone here managed to get their hand in to do it in situ

i know its not the wiper arms loose. i take it that the nut you are talking about it under the wiper motor then. i will have a look at the weekend. thanks andy.

It is ...... 
Scuttle off & remove the 4 hex headed screws & remove the complete wiper assembly.
