I have never had the wrath of admin re post count reductions  :-/

Dont see it being AA, H21 or LB66 but you never know..

My friend (whom until recently drove an 'S Type') mentioned the 'M' word when I asked about the 'X Type Jaguar': that`s 'M' for Mondeo.....he said it`s a Mondeo floorpan; is that correct?  ::)

Parts-Bin engineering; I expect all car makers do it but I thought the Jaguar marque was above that kind of thing. ;D

Indeed correct Debs, some parts are Mondeo sourced whilst Jaguar was owned by Ford. Around 20% are Ford parts including some internal switchgear...

Still now that an Indian company have bought or are buying Jag from Ford im sure we can look at the next floorplan being shared by Tata  :D

...oh and its common practise i.e certain models of SAAB and the Vectra do similar.

I had to play with the shiney new buttons that were given to me to see what they could do...

Took a while for you to suss...  There are others out there as well, by the way.....   ;D

I was a Design Engineer on the launch of the X-Type and X-Type estate. The "ford" thing is over done somewhat. There are Ford parts on there, but only to keep costs down where quality wasn't going to be affected. If you've got one of the early cars (the first 12 months of production), they're about as high quality as they get. After that, the cost-down team moved in. There are compromises with any design be it a baby Jag or a £100K Merc. Nothing is perfect and if you can save a few coins by using a Mondeo switch or the Focus Windscreen mechanism, Why not?

The Mondeo floor underbody was forced upon Jag or they wasn't going to allow it to be built in England...it would have been built in Germany!!!

Figure i heard somewhere was about 18% non Jag...

Some of the guys on some Jag forums get hung up on this, im not too bothered who made it in reality as I love its looks and immaculate bodywork.

Mind you i did have a slight grin when my elderly neighbour said yesterday " Is that you Jag!!!" He is obviously from years gone by when Jags were real mens cars made in Great Britain.
