Thinking about it, it probably was a cheap ebay sensor as I've just replaced the pattern dispack and HBV (with genuine) that I fitted 18 months ago.....  :-[

I wonder if the Bosch dispack is throwing out a stronger spark than the old pattern dispack, and has caused the crank sensor to throw a wobbly?  :-\

I think you misunderstood Ray. I accept it's the crank sensor but I was wondering if the new dispack has caused a knock on effect and so the crank sensor has died....  :-\

It just seems like a coincidence that the crank sensor has gone just after the new dispack has gone in.  ::)  :)

The crank sensors fail because the wiring runs too close to the exhaust fanimold. Over time the insulation gets cooked and goes brittle. The sensor will work for months (years?) like that but fails when the wiring gets disturbed.
Changing the dispack often seems to be followed by a failed crank sensor so I reckon it is caused by the (unavoidable) disturbance of the wiring during the fight to change the dispack :-\

No. Its the crank sensor. The sparks are generated from the cs signal, not the other way round.
