Question about an Engine upgrade
« on: 25 June 2013, 19:59:40 »

Hi Guys

as you can see I'm new here and I was just after some information

I am current driving an 2000 Omega 3.0 V6 manual. Now I am having some major issues with it and looking what it may cost it may be cheaper to get a donner car. Was maybe thinking of if I was going to change the engine out I thought I may as well upgrade in to a 3.2 but looking around and mainly most are autos I was wondering if the Bell housing for my manual is the same as you would find on the 3.2 and would there be any more mod I would have to to fit it, or would the safer option be to try to find a 3.0.

Many thanks for reading this

Hope you can advise

I'm guessing the ecu would have to be changed to?

keep 3.2 manifolds, use 3.0L plenum,as you will need to keep egr valve and icv, junk the sai,and use the 3.0L ecu. Trim the 3.2 manifolds by 5-8mm off the outlet, they flow better than 3.0L.
 Think thats all. ???

TBH, the 3.0l delivers the power better, and returns better economy. Outright performance, my 204k 3.0l auto is mostly quicker than my 74k 3.2 auto, the 3.2 seems to pick up better from standing start.

3.0 and 3.2 use entirely different engine control. 3.0 uses Bosch and 3.2 is Siemens.

Physically, the engine will fit, but you'll need to convert all of the wiring, etc.

a 3.2 using 3.2 sensors and controlo will run like a bag of sh*te

200cc more but less compression. The two engines really don't have anything to choose between them, as said.

when time comes for spares, there's hundreds of 3.0s about, whilst 3.2s are much harder to come by.
