Does anyone on the Oof do house removals?
« on: 17 July 2013, 20:52:06 »

Hi everyone.

I'm moving house next month was wondering whether any of you do house removals?

I'm moving from Fulham, London to Ascot, Berkshire. It's about 25 miles. It's easy to find someone cheap round here but they're usually rubbish and have a tiny little old van.

Pickford's prices seem to start about £3000 so I couldn't afford anyone like that. :o

Hiring a van is possible but I'm not fit enough to carry everything myself.

The last time I moved I ended up with 2 Polish guys but only half of my stuff fitted in their van so it turned out to be an absolute nightmare! :(

I have a 3 bedroom maisonette with all the usual kind of things.

I'll be looking at a Van, similar to you London to Surrey I think. (all going well)

Any friends you can call in for heavy lifting? Up the road I can hire a Luton Van for around £90 a day.

Moving again Kate! Chelsea & now Ascot, you have lived in some very nice areas ......

I recall the first time I moved I used a Cortina estate for the couple of trips. A couple of moves later it was North Amercian Van Lines!

Good luck with the move.

er, no. Closest I've made was a visit to Ponteland once - how close is that? Come to think of it, I spent a week in Durham once - it was a long time ago and much of it was a booze filled haze  8)

We would like Camberley ideally, if we can find what we want within budget. Which is quite tough though  :( So just down the road from Ascot  :y

I used to live in Sandhurst near Camberley. There is a nice pub called the Rackstraw. You'll have to give it a try!

Oh, god! Just remembered the night club of the same name. Brings back memories. We were more often able to convince the bouncers at the Agincourt, though.. ::) And if really desperate, JW's or the RagSlagamuffins. I hope for Tunnie's sake the Camberley night life has improved. ;D

Rackstraws is about 200m from where I live, but I rarely use it where it is now part of a Premier Inn. One of the reasons I moved to Sandhurst is that there are 7 pubs and 2 social clubs all within walking distance.  :y :y :y Sandhurst to date has done much better than most villages and towns in the area and only lost 2 pubs, one through having its licence revoked about 25 years ago and the other being replaced by a block of flats about 15 years ago.

Good luck in finding somewhere to live, rental property tends to be rented very quickly where there is a shortage of property in the area.

Hi Kate, I know cost is a major factor in moving, like you I couldn't even consider Pickfords. But we moved last November, contacted White & company removals, told them the move had to be in 8 days time. 4 bed house move from Bedford to Lincoln. 200 mile round trip. Driver and mate arrived day before move to load most things apart from beds and essentials, they phoned 3 extra blokes to help pack stuff (off the books at £35 each)Our stuff filled the biggest wagon they have. (proper removal lorry.) Move cost £1,250. Plus of course the obligatory tips for driver and mate + 1 who they brought along to help. Very satisfied, very quick workers, very helpful.... I know its a lot of money but well worth it just for the lack of stress..  :y
