Omega GSM Antenna
« on: 21 July 2013, 14:46:34 »

We all know that the short stubby aerial on some saloons is the GSM antenna. The cable runs from the roof, down the C pillar and down the drivers side of the car and is terminated behind the kick panel. Does anyone know what the terminated GSM antenna PLUG is called?? as I am wanting an adaptor that runs from this terminated plug to an FME male/female plug for my handsfree unit and about 1 to 2 meters long to run behind the dash to the pass side where the pre-wired telephone loom plug is.

Also, can anyone confirm that this picture is an FME male/female?? plug. This is the plug that plugs into the Nokia 610 CarKit brains box.

Difficult to tell from the pic, fairly sure the 50 ohm plugs at the kick panel are SMA or SME, but someone will need to confirm.

Ok thanks, ill wait for a few more responses yet, I just haven't had time to remove my kick panel to have a look myself, but a picture of this terminated plug from anyone would be a bonus  :y

Done some research, and the picture above is an FME Female plug, so I just need to know what the terminated gsm plug is.

The plug in the footwell is not something I've ever come across before. You might need the section of loom that goes from the footwell up into the radio cage to turn it into something useful. Not sure what the telematics box normally has on it. SMA rings a bell.

If you need some FME connectors, male, female, couplers boots etc, give me shout as Ive got some kicking around from the old Dolphin Tetra days, may have some adapters as well but they wont be to SMA though as dont use them. Your need a 50 ohm Crimp Tool though.  ;)

You can buy the genuine GM adapter cable to patch from the kickpanel connector to the HF car kit:-

93160392

£16.00 the last time I bought one.

Autoloeads also do the same cable but I can't find the part number at the moment.

It's long enough to get from the drivers kickpanel to the passenger side of the centre console IIRC (meets up with a standard length Nokia or Bury cradle antenna tail).

Might be worth checking the kickpanel first for the vacant connector as the cars I've seen lately have been equipped with a Elite GSM / GPS combi antenna whereas i'm not 100% if the single GSM twig antenna coax terminates on the kick panel connector as it's been a long time since I looked at one!

** UPDATE **

Just been and had the kick panel off and I was faced with this! 2 wires, a black one with a female FME connector on it and a grey one which is plugged into another grey wire via an un-specified connector and runs up into the dash, which one is which??

One of them has the be the GSM cable and the other, I'm assuming the GPS cable, but I don't have GPS unless the short stubby antenna on my roof does both??

The Grey Looks like its 75 Ohm, so I reckon thats for your FM, rear Amp and Window feed.

You do not have a gps aerial only a gsm aerial.
This black cable is used for a gsm.
The grey cable is for the radio

I thought the FM aerial HAD to run down the PASSENGER side of the vehicle? Quote me if I'm wrong  :-\
