At least it runs on fossil fuel......I so very nearly bought a Nissan Leaf this week  :-[

Don't kid yourself.. They run on (mostly) fossil fuels too. They've just moved the exhaust pipe out of sight. ;)
Unless you live near Drax ::)

And.. considering what a Li-Ion battery can do to a Dell Laptop, plonking my @rse down on half a tonne of Datsun battery for my morning commute isn't a thought that fills me with joy. :o

I saw a Vauxhall Ampera in a car park last week so I thought I'd check out how much they cost.. £37,000! And they get 50 miles on battery and then a whole 310 miles to a 35L tank..

Sooo about the same fuel economy as Amy's 995cc Micra from 2001? Somehow doesn't seem worth £37k (or £43k by the time I'd put the options on) ;D

The Leaf I like because they have increased the range, on average 90 miles per full charge in real life according to reports I have read.

It's the running costs that entice me the most. about £300-400 a year compared to £1300 for the Focus and £2500 for the jag plus no RFL and no Congestion Charge.

Most of my journeys are less than 30 miles, I could keep the jag (finish the conversion to LPG) for the times I have to transport the tri bike and get the Leaf which would be used most of the time.

Decisions  :-\

Renault Florence(I think its called that) is cheaper than the leaf and uses similar drive train, saw a test on it somewhere and they reckon its one of the best :y

I was being facetious about the Passat ;D I wouldn't buy one if they were buy one get one free and only cost 50p ::)

The Phaeton is a really impressive package, but for myself at least, something doesn't quite add up :-\ I suspect the catch is an electromechanical one... but aesthetically it really irritates me that the front door interior handles don't match (on any VW group car), and the steering wheel boss looks boxy. Both stupid things, but I could never buy a car that  irked me whenever I'm sitting in it ::)

That said I think it is a much better prospect than the rather more pretencious Audi A8 :y and therein lies the quandry...

Never noticed or affected by either - must check interior door handles

Had 3 Passats. They maybe made by the same company but they are leagues apart. I have yet to find a switch or fitting which has been used on both. The ride home was a real eye opener. The ride, noise levels etc were a real eye opener. I've not been in a modern Bentley or Rolls Royce but I've never experienced anything like it.

Passengers always comment how quiet it is - VW have done something with the windows - there was a myth going around about triple glazing but it is not triple glazed on checking

Might be double glazed :-\ windows will be about 8-9mm thick... pretty obvious when open, as likely, alot of time/money spent sealing the door shuts properly :y

Just to add, double glazing doesn't do the window motors any favours ::)

I suspect the window motors would have been upgraded to cope  ;)

One can only hope :y either Polo motors are over engineered, or a potential timebomb :-\

Small consolation for owners of the first double glazed car...
