Autobox selector cleaning.
« on: 30 July 2013, 20:30:03 »

I am about to remove the switch to, hopefully, resolve my reverse lights/parkpilot inoperation. However first I would like to confirm that the reversing lights are switched through this switch? I have read the guide which, to my turgid brain, appears somewhat brief. Am I correct that the two procedures listed are either/or?  Does cleaning involve anything other than a thorough cleaning with the appropriate electrical cleaning fluid? :-\ :-\ :-\

You sure it`s not the actual reverse light switch as opposed to the selector switch Chris :-\

I'd assumed the reverse lights' switch was integral to the selector switch in an auto. And manuals have a separate selector.   :-\

That is what I am trying to establish Rob. Is there a separate switch, and therefore I do not need to remove the selector switch? :-\

My assumption also Andy, unless someone knows better? :-\ :-\ :-\

My mistake Chris sorry. Manual box = physical switch, autobox = signal from range switch (selector)

awaits comment from Andy B ;D

And the 2 procedures? Both or either? Cleaning as described by me?

Thanks to Andy & Rob I am now going to remove the switch, but I would be grateful if someone could advise if the two procedures in the guide are required. I am inclined to think only one is necessary.  :-\

I'd be inclined to clean it all out while it's off the car.  :y

'Twas my intention Andy, but I have now found that the reverse lights are working again, (see Park pilot post) so I am reluctant to disturb it. Perhaps best just to spray some cleaner fluid into it. :y

Maybe just corroded connections at the plug.  A simple unplug & replug might be the answer  :-\

Is that the large plug in the front of the selector?
