What Was The Final Straw?

So, we all have had cars that have been unrealiable steaming piles of poo to own, but what was the one thing that made you say stuff it, and get something else?

Mine was a 1998 Daewoo Nubira Estate 2.0CDX In silver (and rust). It was about 18 mths old when my company (owned by my dad!!!!) thrust this piece of crap on me.
At first glance the looks were bloody awful and the interior was plain nasty. But coming from a 1994 Rover 214SLi with 155,000 on the clock, I thought his may have been an improvement.

It had air con, four elec windows and a huge boot, but it was that engine that amazed me. It was so rapid (as a friendly copper told me whilst standing beside the A1/M at Letchworth who had just witnessed it accelerate from 80mph to 122mph faster than his unmarked Volvo, but more about that later)

No word of a lie though, this car was beyond unrealiable. It's main problem was a front suspension that always creaked. No matter what the daewoo dealer did, within 2 weeks the creak was back!!!

The clutch exploded on one journey, finding reverse gear was a game of pure luck, there was rust (a lot of it) behind the front grill and when I took it all the way to Enfield for them to repair it all they did was touched in the brown areas with a brush. They'd had it for 3 days!!! There was honestly so much wrong with that car that I have just blocked out most of it.

But the biggie was, cambelt due at 60k, mine failed at 58,500! It took most of the engine with it and was off the road for near on 6 weeks as they needed to get the parts shipped over from Korea. I picked the car up on the Saturday and had the Monday off to take my brother to the airport with his missus. Driving out of London on the A4 and bang, it snapped again!!! Had it recovered back to Luton Daewoo and ended up having such an argument with the service manager that he offered me outside! Turned out it wasn't the cambelt, it was a hairline fracture in the idler jockey bracket, the very bracket they said they had changed!

But just a few weeks later the heavens smiled on me. I'd just got the car back and I had the run in with the above copper. I went to court and got a 2 month ban, during this time one of the companies salesman who had a habit for smashing his cars in, smashed his (4th) car in. As a punishment he was given the daewoo! Result. I got my license back and slipped behind the wheel of an almost new Astra estate 2.0Di

But believe me, given the choice, I would have gotten rid of that Daewoo long long before that!!

My Mk5 Cortina was a pig , electrics and of course rust  ::) If you put the indicator on the brake lights would come on and vice versa . Then starting the car when it had been raining was a pig , crank crank crank nowt !
A few patchwork plates were needed but the front wings had to come off , when removed it was decided that more patches were required ..in fact 2 whole sheets of metal to replace both inner wings  ;D Strangely i liked the car though for all its faults  ???

Ps pug's and electrics dont mix  >:(

My biggest pile of crap was a 1980 (W reg) Datsun Cherry 120Y.

I fully expected it to be dreary and tedious to drive, but I also expected it to be RELIABLE.

Wrong......So very wrong. It broke down so many times I  briefly wondered if Datsun were owned by British Leyland. :-\ :-\ :-\

Mine, between Omega ownership,  was a 1989 Toyota 1.6 Carina II Estate.  I bought it in 2002 for £300 with 160,000 miles on the clock when I decided money in the bank that I needed at the time was better than it tied up in an Omega.

I nursed that car over six years and pushed the mileage up to 250,000.  The Toyota never faltered, and cost me little money, with the only large cost (£60) for new brake pipes that I fitted to pass an MOT.  Apart from that it would exceed 125 MPH on the motorway, and surprise, I think, the drivers of prestige cars that I paced with ease!!

But the lure of the Omega was just too great, and I traded my trusty Carina in for a 2.5CDX when the dealer offered me £395 PX!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)

That Carina I swear would still be going if owned and maintained by me, but when it comes to big engined Vauxhalls; well what more can I say!! ::) ::) ::) :D :D :D ;)

Mine....a mini back in the day's!
No long story though,just a fuel leak (drove around for ages with smell of petrol),parked outside local chinese after a night out and with  new girl in tow :-*....just started the meal......BOOM!. :-\......windows and everything caved in (lucky it was parked across the road).
Ended up borrowing her little blue A40 which got left somewhere after it ran out of petrol and I could never find it again or the girl!  ???

Triton 650, always going wrong. In the end I decided one more problem and it is going. It didn't take long and got replaced by my Triumph Trident.

Nope, never had a car that has made me want to throw in the towel.  Tractor (the one you had) came close in the early days, but I can be a stubborn bugger, and ended up loving it.

Always say it was a private road, Which it is really seen as we pay heavy amount of our cash on car TAX.  ;D

nope-mine was the silver shed---took lots of time to solve all its issues---here are just some
overheating.miss-fire.non starting.lumpy idle.no idle.no sunroof ops.passenger seat back not moving.rear lights.trans gearbox faults.steering.lpg miss fires.lpg vapouriser water leak.central locking.head gaskets.oil cooler.injectors,wipers odd travel.power sounder.fans.self levelling suspension.bonnet cable release.washers.
thats the ones I can remember ;D ;D ;D ;D oh and engine transplant :y
but without those problems it wouldn't be a miggy eh :y :y :y

BMW 528i got rid of after about 6months because I blew the engine out of it,BMW 320 got rid of because I blew the engine out of it[a theme developing here?]!Mk1 VW Scirocco got rid of after 3 weeks as it would only ever start with a bump start[tried all sorts]never on the key.
