Hi all.

I'm saving up for my next Omega. I have few questions for you which will help me decide what sort of miggy to get. Here goes:

1. Why did you pick the Omega/s you've got now?
2. Did you regret your choice and if so, why?
3. If you haven't got an Omega now then why not?
4. Which Omega engine is best/worst?
5. Is a leather interior better than cloth?
6. If your current car got written off and you were buying another Omega then what spec would you go for? (engine size, trim, model etc.)
7. What's the best thing about the Omega?
8. What's the worst?
9. Is MPG a serious issue for you?
10. Is there a better alternative to the Omega when taking into account price and comfort levels etc?

Thanks in advance. :y

1.Bought from forum member Danny. A great buy.
2. Absolutely not.
3. I have one.
4. 2.0 and 2.2.....Not a proper Omega. ::) ::)
5. Cloth every time.
6. MV6 or Elite.3.0/3.2
7. Excellent value for money
8. Being a woman Mrs Opti can't drive it.
9. No.
10. No.

I hope that helps, kate.... :-* :-* :-*

All good questions IMO.

1. 3.2 Elite. Lots of toys. Comfort and smooth turbine like power. Big! Big boot, centre arm rest, head room, just. Its black. Black ones are faster :D

2. Over all. Absolutely not. I love it. But they do need some upkeep that less... Practical/mechanically minded owners may feel is excessive.

3. I do. But if I was to move on, it would cost considerably more money to top the performance AND toy level.

4. Don't know, as I've not tried them all, but for me, the 3.2 gives best power to maintenance ratio, although things like coil pacs are expensive to replace.

5. Not necessarily. Cold in winter/hot in summer, slippery in corners... But it comes with the car I want. So as there's nothing in it for me, leather is fine.

6. Same. 3.2 Elite in Black Red .

7. One best thing... It was a good executive car in its day. Ie, big powerful comfy and fully loaded for its age.

8. The level of maintenance required, sadly. The leaks and handling take too much work to keep in line IMO. Yes its an old car, but sourcing reliable parts is getting harder to keep it healthy. If it didn't have lpg fitted though, fuel costs would be top of the list.

9. No, it has lpg. And thank The Lord. ;D

10. No, absolutely not. There's more reliable/more modern/more powerful/better loaded/more economical etc etc. but ALL those thing cost more money. Bangs for buck, you can't beat an omega. But some might prefer to pay more for reliability and save themselves some agro. Lexus maybe. Phaeton perhaps. BMW (spit) possibly if 530d.
But they ALL have faults of some sort. If you wanted to add reliability to an omega type car, I'd look at Lexus or Phaeton (then buy a vxr8 anyway, but that's just me ;) )

+1 where highlighted, and all the time I can afford to run an Omega I will :y :y

After that................probably a Merc E 320 :y

Talking about my 2.2 here, which I got first.

1. FatherT had an Omega, for my job motorway miles became were big (at the time). So I opted for a nice comfy cruiser.
2. No, smooth, comfy, loads of space, easy to work on.
3. N/A - We have 4 now  ::)
4. 2.2 in my book, massive amounts of room in engine bay. It's a joy to work on, secondly 3.2 V6, loads more space than earlier V6's.
5. I find cloth better, I have both, (leather is late spec) - Cloth is warm in winter cool in summer. Although leather does look better.
6. Spec irrelevant, I'd go on Cost, service and what it's like underneath/to drive. Spec can be added later.
7. LPG Conversion, effective 55mpg on the wallet.
8. Performance, it's a 2.2 it's not going to win any races.
9. No, LPG'd
10. Jag XJ (X350 shape) - Driven 4.2 V8, on 2006 year. Faster than 3.2, far, far better ride, fuel use same as 3.2, prices are good. Most likely future replacement for me.

The omega is still a great car in terms of todays transport and yes getting old now

May I say long live the omega.

1) I wanted an estate for the practicality. founed 2.5 diesel elite auto
2) Not at all, had two Carlton diamond estates before
3) still got it but am seroisly thinking of selling now
4) Only had experiace of mine and travelling in other Elites
5) Leather, so much easier to keep clean
6) Dont think I would have another but not for any bad reason, I want a V8
7) Very underrated and capable car
8) Bad press from the likes of Clarkson. Spares back up by Vauxhall
9) No, I achieve 32-34 MPG in standard trim with an auto box
10) Not for the same money and year

4,Don't know as only ever had 3.0l V6
5,Only had leather interior for many years now so will settle for nothing else.
6,3.0lV6 Elite
7,Very comfortable, cheap and basically pretty reliable.
8,Rusty rear arches!!
9,No,if it were I'd have bought something more economical
10,Don't know but it'd be a very short list I suspect!

If I were to buy another one (probably wont) I would be after a late, low mileage 3.2 Elite with LPG fitted.

Almost bought that MV6 many months ago but the chap he bought it from sold it even though he promised to keep it giving me 1st refusal, Was around 1,795 back then iirc.

There's a cheap 3.2 "52" Estate on eBay around £250 last i looked.

I'm really enjoying reading your answers. :y

Completely off topic ...............  ::) ::) ::)

How are you now after your heroic actions? Is the bruising gone/faded yet?

The bruising has gone but I've still got a hard lump of bone sticking up under my eye.

The surgeon tried to fix it but it's still there so I might need another operation.

Thanks for all your answers. :y

I think I would like a 3.2 Elite with black leather. I'd rather not have silver again as I've had two silver ones before. My previous omega's:

A maroon/red 2.0 manual saloon
A green/blue 2.5 manual estate
A green 2.5 CD manual saloon
A silver 3.0 MV6 estate
A black 2.5 Elite saloon
A silver 2.6 CDX auto saloon

I think the MV6 was my favourite but it only managed about 17mpg.
