Hi all on OOF,does anyone know if.A doctor issues a prscription does it come out of the surgreys buget.

Hi STEMO i would like to,to cut a long story short.We recently moved to hartlepool,signed with a local doctor.My wife went to see him tonight,he spoke to her like dirt.Told her she will stop smokeing(not try).Refused to sign her repeat,rippted it up and put it in the bin.Gave her a new prscription,but without tramadol.Then made 4 appointments in work time to his pain relleaf clinic,without asking her.Told her to use olive oil instead of tramadol,she explaind her medical history to him.But he just talked down to her,BTW we know all about tramadol we disscusd it. With her gp in birmingham befor we moved.She came home crying from the doctors FFS,if i had been there he would of needed a doctor.Can he do this or is this to do with money,if so i will pay for the tramadol.Even through we have a pre payed prescription card,she is my wife i love her.And i dont want to see here in pain,she know all the pros and cons of this drug.We diicussed it shuley it our choice.So Sorry for the rant,and my speilling but its pissed me off somewhat.Dean

Tramadol as a "synthetic type opiate" is becoming problematic to a greater level in recent years and GP's are getting pressured to reduce it's use on a repeat basis, to be honest like most pain killers it becomes less effective as tolerance develops. In terms of cost it's not that expensive so I doubt that's the issue. If she can get to a pain clinic it may be worth while as there a range of medications in patch form which may be equally or more effective. Obviously I don't know the history of whats wrong but do have some insight into the medication side.

That said a different GP in the same surgery may just prescribe it.The one your wife met sounds a complete tw*t and not someone I would want looking after me, moving surgeries is always an easy option or approach the local PALS ( patient advice and liaison service )  for a chat.

Regardless of the medical issues, no one should leave a doctors surgery feeling like that. My wife had the same experience over MMR.....so I made an appointment with the bastard. A letter of apology was forthcoming.

Thanks for that Omegod,she has a degenerated prolapsted disk and syst(i think thats right)due to a car accedent.Yes you are right moveing gp is easy,but doctors cant treat people like this.Even if he is a doctor
