The "New" Lottery . . . .
« on: 04 October 2013, 14:03:54 »

So what exactly is so "New" about the lottery as from this week.

First and foremost, tickets are now £2 per line ! Camelot have produced a whole pile of reasons (bushit) for this and of course every single one is to benefit con the punters and provide more cash to the good causes (Ahem)

Here is what is all means . . . .

I've played on and off almost since it started. I once got 5 numbers that got me just under £1,500 plus a few £10s. The gap between the Jackpot and all the others is now huge. I really think that they have got it wrong. I would be much more prepared to part with cash for an improved chance of a more modest win than a snowball in hells chance of millions. I mean I would be chuffed with a couple of hundred thousand, but they want the big headline numbers.

I will certainly be spending less . . . . if anything at all !

I tend to agree with you, totally, but its done that way to get around large Syndicates, Mafia, Organised Crime etc, in particular un won Roll Overs, if the prize money was increased at the lower end and Hi end funds reduced then Very large Syndicates would clean up every time.

If the prize funds where made higher at the lower prize funds, and lets say it was in its 2nd or 3rd Roll Over, the chance of winning the Jackpot are still 14 million to 1, an Large Syndicate could in theory try and cover as many tickets using a combination of numbers, it would be unlikely they would punt 14 million to cover every combination of numbers but by punting say 5 million would get them there return plus profit just by winning the the lower end of the prize funds without hitting the Jackpot, plus the odds of winning all the lower stuff and getting the Jackpot are in there favour anyway.

The Bonus Ball is also in place for this very reason and helps to reduce this scenario as it is anyway, by breaking up the number of variations at the lower end and to winning the Jackpot and the 2nd Bonus Ball Jackpot together.

Stopped playing that years ago . Check out the Irish lotto and compare the prize money . For instance 3 numbers on the Irish lotto is £600 for £1 and it has less numbers to pick from .

The new lottery has just made a big mistake  :y

Their government is broke, so they charge stupid tax rates on things people need, like car tax...

The people are just as broke as the government, so good size lottery prizes are a must, and every one wins...

The people, because some will buy a ticket when their car tax is due in the hope of winning the cash to pay it. And some will win it...
The lotto people are happy because they receive loads of cash to spend on needy and worthy causes.
The government are happy because everyone pays their taxes, the lotto pays tax, and even better still, they don't need to do anything for the worthy/needy because charities will do that for them. :y
