cheers boys  :y don't worry I wasn't going to replace anything. I was (as I said before) going to reset and see what comes back as I also don't believe theyre nackered..... if they come back that was the approach I was going to take but not before  :y

drove it tonight. mil off for most of 20 mile journey. came on 3 times but each time only for a few seconds  :)

Soon your car will have as many bits replaced on it as mine  ::) Good ole vx eh .. worth nothing to sell but worth a fortune to yourself  :y

 ???Is it a new water pump, if not may be the wp bearing.

changed oil today and fitted new fog lights  :y

shackeng, looking at the belt spinning it has a slight wobble. I wonder if a pulley is loose  :-\

Possible, but that would probably cause a continual squeal. Is it a new pump?

If it continues, you may have to whip the aux belt off and start it briefly to eliminate auxiliaries. :y

Cheers mate. do you mean to make sure it goes away when off so as to narrow it down to the aux belt?

ps, I trust I can just unhook aux belt from crank and leave everything else lined up (with belt hooked out of the way obviously). then start car?

Take it clear of the CS, and see if the noise is there when you start it briefly. I suspect it wont be, it is most likely one of the aux bearings. :y
