Incidentally, how long does that 1000L last you, Opti? Just wondering as the place in Cornwall was on oil (and roasty toasty it was too) and at the time I was pondering how efficient oil heating is in general.

I'm kinda interested in this. I'm hoping to buy a house with no gas but heating is oil, and trying to figure out the cost implications. It can't possibly be as expensive as things are now (gas heating in London). Or can it ?

All those with oil fired systems .. please make sure your tank is well secure, not just fillers but drains as well ...

Two friends of ours who both live out in the sticks - hence the oil systems - have both had large volumes stolen within days of being filled. Police actually believe, but cannot yet prove, that someone in the company is passing info on .... :(

Veg oil is also exempt from duty, up to 2500 litres per year,as long as its only for personal use. I use less than half that.  :)

That's exactly right Albs and for non road use only. Agricultural, fisheries, construction etc  ;)

I think it's more likely to be kerosene, in which case how would anyone know?  :-\

My Dad had a 'Little Grey Fergie' Ferguson tractor which ran on paraffin, but had a small tank with petrol to start up on, then when it was warm you switched to paraffin.  I learnt to drive on that aged 9!  :)
