Maybe there's an ice test somewhere on the internet?

See which country has the most grippy ice. If that particular country gets any/much ice at all that is. ::)

have you ever tried ice skating.. I did.. the surface is never smooth unless corrected by machines..  same is true for road surfaces..

car/truck tyres are not ice correcting machines.. surface will be rough in most places..

Your right cem. We don't get much here in the uk so wouldn't know what ice looks like. At all. Ever. ::)

Winter tyres are for 4x4's all year round. ;D

I laugh with my a*s* when I see the drivers faces of skating 4x4 on ice.. they are useless without proper tyres.. ;D

Fairly sure 99.9% of vehicles would skate on ice whatever tyres are fitted. Guessing you really need studs for ice............

In about 1983/4 I got studded tyres fitted to the front of my Company Mk3 1.6 Ford Escort Estate, they hardly saw ice let alone snow, but they could make sparks on a nice dry concrete surface; boot down front wheel drive in the dark...... :y :y Apparently they may have been illegal....... ::) :-[ :-X ;) ;)

IIRC , some tyre brands demonstared new type of studs which moves out only on snow ???

Hmmmmm...didn't see any actual studs coming out of any actual tyres, just a graphic. Would be mega expensive as well.
How can a pneumatic tyre rotating at ???? rpm have an air feed to push the studs out?
Bovine excrement  ;D
