I'm afraid I don't have a lot of time for plod now.

I many cases mate I agree that the perception of the Police by the public can be very poor, and I genuinely understand a lot of the frustrations people face.

A prime example being the attempted break in we had here, while away for the weekend. Trying to get the police to check basic forensic stuff like printing around the lock that had been forced was like getting blood from a stone.

But ultimately, while things won't always go the way we want - I still feel we would be lost without the Police, and if you set aside Government drives and motives,  the majority of PCs/SPCs/PCSOs are good people who would be prepared to help you and I :y

We already are. The enviros have dictated how much water (new) lavatories in our homes can use in one flush (not much), and we are lumbered with pathetic examples that can't keep the stool under the water as we defacate. This results in unpleasant smells and streaks of faeces left above the water line. It actually takes more water to get rid of the waste with cleaning and multiple flushes than it did with older lavatories with higher water capacity.

Ahh, the "double flusher". :-[ Glad it's not just me. ::)

I can blame it on my cr@p modern toilet now.  ;D

I totally agree. Problem is the serving officers are allowing this to happen. They are quick to let their feelings be known if their pay rise isn't big enough but do little to do the job in ways that they would find more effective. They believe that the little experience, university educated, fast track senior officers know best.

Thing is, the Police is a Disciplined force, so a Constable will naturally follow the orders of his seniors...

Possibly that criticism may be more deserved by members higher up in Government?

You can't tar all Police with that rod though... remember not all Police officers recieve financial payments for their work, some have other motives or reasons for being a Police Officer :y

I heard the other day that a couple of chief constables have decided to bin their government targets and revert to allowing common sense and officer's discretion determine their policies. Let's hope it spreads not only throughout the Police but the NHS, Schools, etc, etc..

About time people realised that Whitehall is full of people who are experts at getting people to vote for them and nothing else.
