front two tyres have gone bald!!!!
« on: 08 January 2014, 23:34:36 »

Hello again, I haven't had to post in some time as my omega has been running perfectly ever since I did the cam sensor and fixed the steering wheel wobble.

But today I was parked and I left the steering on full lock. So as I was walking toward the car I could not see any tread on the front two tyres. Its as if they are slicks!!

I just had the problem fixed a few months ago when the steering wheel was wobbling and the car had the track rods fixed and two brand spanking new tyres with treads so deep that you could fit your fingers inside them.

I absolutely cannot drive the car now as each tyre gets 3 points and I'd lose my licence.

Not sure what to do now, do I go to the tyre place because the tyres may be faulty or do I go back to the place that fixed the track rod or is it something else? I don't think my dad kept the receipt but what do I do now?

Thank you  :'( :'(

Probably failed to set the toe correctly, and its wiped the tread off in double quick time. :(

There's a decent set up company up your way, someone will be along. But get it set up first, for full geometric set up, before fitting new tyres or the new ones will go the same way.

Got that T shirt... :-[

Post your location and, as said someone will be able to recommend a place to set the geometry :y

Failing that, these people are the place to go to...

Cheaper than a pair of tyres every fortnight...

Get the tyres on order or in the boot so that if you are stopped the nasty policeman may let you off. :y

Sounds like your tracking is way out.  I would buy two new tyres and have the tracking checked at the same time, then have a full geo set up ASAP.  Book an appointment for the tyres, it may help if you are stopped on the way there.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

Get decent tyres on the fronts asap, even if part worn, unless your driving pre booked to a Garage or Tyre Place, if stopped, no amount blag'ing to Plod in there right mind is going to let you off driving slicks on the front.  ;)

Absolutely, dont use part worn myself but at roughly £25 a corner fitted vs 6 Points on your Lic'y is a no brainer, at least until the cause of the problem is fixed.  :y

Are they bold across the full face or just the inside edge?

They are all bald evenly and not on the inner edge. Back two are fine but both tyres are the same and all the tread is gone.

I have a new Michelin spare in the boot with a metal alloy and I've got another in the garage so I'm going to attempt to change it with the jack and spanner and get it to geometry.
I'm from oldham too.

Thanks

P.s forgot to mention that the steering wheel to go straight has to be kept at a slight angle, like I'm going left. I've always driven the car like this. Is this something geometry would fix? How much would this cost?

Thank you :y

Yes full geo should sort all that. Take it back if it doesn't.

Check through the guides and FAQ sections. It's all there. :)

Just to clear & confirm

Are you saying both front tyres have no tread at all right across their complete width?

And these are fairly new tyres ?

didn't want to mention that as I had that happen a few years ago  on a cavalier  . . . 3 out of 4  went    . . . wheel trims all replaced very neatly as well

Shouldn't be a track issue if the tyres are worn evenly across entire width ???
