Here is a Wiki link that hopefully explains the CAN bus system

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controller_area_network

Some VX cars use CAN bus, Corsa for example but not sure about Migs

I will look into it further and get back to you

I think I will have to concur with Mr tunnie as I think the Omega uses Tech II only

Early Vectra C/ Signums are part CAN, some of the control units are coded together some are not, later vehicles are full CAN

As ECUs can be swapped from Omega to Omega without first putting them in 'delivery mode' then by definition an Omega isnt CAN

The Drive-By-Wire Omega uses CAN between the Engine, Gearbox and ABS ECUs (also some other components if the mythical ESP option is present).

Trying to think if some of the head units use CAN between display and head unit / telematics? Might be another setup I'm thinking of.

.. but the Omega doesn't use CAN comprehensively as some newer cars do to integrate all control units.

Thanks for your info Kevin, it backs up what I had researched earlier, in that it is a bit of a hotch potch with CAN bus or a CAN bus type system being used in certain parts of systems. I believe it is used in some form for the head unit/stalk control system

On DBW petrol Omegas, engine, gearbox and ABS (I think) is CAN. NCDC ring is CAN. CCRT to display is CAN (but not to CD Changer).

Otherwise no CAN on Omegas.  Omega is not a CAN car (despite some components using the tech). Vectra-C/Signum, Astra-H/Zafira-B and Corsa-D were the first of the Vauxhall CAN cars (the Vectra-C was the first)

CAN is CAN, partial or full, there are CAN interfaces on board.

Even the old CCRT700 to CD changer was a 'CAN' spec interface.

What is so mythical about the ESP  ::) :D

Ok, I know they never introduced ESP in UK but some of the latest ones in other countries have that. As mine does. Useless thing as it is way too agressive and very sharp in action... would change it to normal TC and might even do some work to have it "de-graded" but it seems I'd be changing the whole lot: ABS unit + ECU, some other things I'm not yet aware of, reprogramming etc etc....

Oh, it's just that it's in all the literature in the UK but we've never come across a car with it. Sounds like we're not missing much! ;)
