fuse 29 problems ?
« on: 25 February 2014, 17:39:47 »

Hi all
any info on this little problem greatly received

Firstly as mention on my other thread front heated seats stopped working  :'(

Was advised to check various fuses as fuse 14   ( the one I thought was the front heated seats was ok)

checked all fuses out & Fuse 29 was blown . It was only a Red 10 where as my owners handbook says Yellow  20.

I replaced with a 20 & heated seats would now switch on  :) :)

after about a minute smoke started rising from the top of the climate panel directly above the drivers heated seat switch.

Switched off both seats & removed fuse , which was not blown.

Also noticed from the owners manual  that fuse 29 covers"airbag, cooling fan, courtesy lamp as well as heated seats " and my airbag

light has been on since I recently changed seats.  What & where  would be cooling fan & courtesy lamp so I can check if these are working

Could this have also caused the airbag light to stay on .   Problem with that is that I just removed the airbag bulb on Sunday as it was

driving me nuts as I have not been able to get a tech2 put on it to put it out  :( :(

TIA  :y

Here is a copy from the online handbook/s
29 Cooling fan,
heated seats,
courtesy lamp,
airbag,
terminal 30:
constant current for
caravan/trailer
10 A

29 Cooling fan,
heated seats,
courtesy lamp,
airbags
10 A

Both versions show Fuse 29 as a 10A fuse

Hope that helps

GM's wiring diagrams show F29 is 10A

A fuse is there to protect the wiring, and thus a larger one should never, ever be put in. That's how fires start.

I assume it was all working before you buggered around swapping seats, so I'd be inclined to go back to that working configuration, and then work forward from there.

Although you may also need to remove the centre console components and inspect the wiring condition, following tuning it to channel smoke  :'(

Bit of confusion here  . . . my owners handbook (edition  TS1433-2   June 2001) says :  20A

Marks DTM posted a comprehensive listing of cabin fuses for all cars back in October 2006 & shows a 30A

Really confused now .   Also  where it mentions "cooling fan"   would that be the ones in front of the rad then ?

Well, as said, the fuse's only job is to protect the wiring. By effectively bypassing the fuse (by slapping a bigger one in), you are putting the wiring at risk, and the smoke you witnessed is likely to have been the wiring.

I appricate that TB . . . but looking it up in my owners book said a 20A  . . . thinking that an under rated fuse would blow.

Don't think there is any damage , there was no burning smell & only a slight sighting of smoke .

there is almost certainly a problem with the  heater pads , so can I unplug these from below the seats as I am not bothered about the heated seats ?

and then put a 10A back in to run the other bits ? :-\ :-\

I'd go back to where it was all working, esp as you've managed to bring on your airbag light, get it all working, then move forward to where you want to be.

Airbag light and non functioning heaters following seat swap. Anyone else hearing alarm bells?

They were the correct seats, weren't they?

Yep . . from  FL elite  in to FL MV6     got them from Albs .         We thought the airbag prob was to do with the child seat gizmo /sensor in the cabin light.

The airbag light on  was intermittant at first after swap then constant after a day or two

got me thinking now  TB  . . .   said seats came from an 02  3.2 Elite that Albs broke   . . . but could they have been incorrectly transplanted into that car?

How do I tell which era they are ?

A "reputed" autoelectrician did that to ex-BiL's car, having miswired the stereo... the next day all the smoke escaped from the wires...

Passenger seat fitted with transponder for child seat, flat yellow rectangular plug underneath said seat connected

That`s your SRS light problem. Guess you plugged in the yellow flat rectangular plug under passenger seat
