Handbrake again ?
« on: 06 June 2014, 07:39:20 »

When replacing the rear disc would i be right in saying that :

The brake disc should "Just" slide over the handbrake shoes so no need for anymore adjustment once the disc has been slid over ?

Reason is , the star adjuster wont loosen off because of the position of the shoe tensioner spring once the disc had been put over the shoes :(

The position of the shoe tensioner spring lays across the bottom of the star wheel making it impossible to turn the star wheel down to release the shoe .
It can be tightened but not slackened  :(

As said, either your doing something wrong or there is a fault in the setup  :y

It's a spring, it should give enough to turn the adjuster both ways... ie if it turns one way but not the other, either you are not trying hard enough :P or the adjuster is at its limit :y

Been there. Persistence, a torch and the right screwdriver is the key!

I know what your saying , the spring just seems to tight to slacken and not enough give on the spring to do it . Ive got both discs off , its just when i re-asemble if i tighten too much once the disc is on over the shoes i wont be able to slacken it  :(

That adjuster looks to be at its minimum limit. Don't think it will go any further than that.

copperslip. :)

Used plenty of that on the rear calliper service   :)

So job done , just adjusted the star wheel as near as i could to biting point before shoe horning the disc over  ::) Cleaned out a fair bit of brake dust from the handbrake drum and made good the lip  :) What a pig of a job  ::) Only took 5 hrs  :-[
Handbrake on 2-3 clicks works a treat now .
