Working in a tall office building in La Defense.  In true French fashion it was empty within an hour of the news and the stations were overcrowded resulting in the police conducting crowd control.

The place was like a ghost town by mid afternoon.

I heard about the death of Princess Di on the radio whilst driving a truck across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.  The Aussies were quite nice to us Brits for a very short time before regressing to their natural obnoxious state!  ;D

I was in a remote part of Namibia when I heard about 9/11 and we managed to get the BBC World Service on the radio and sat round listening.  It was about a week before returning to civilisation and finally seeing it on TV.  :(

Diana's death. Halted a party immediately as everyone gathered round the telly. Sobered up pretty quick.

911. Heard about it at work, and came homr to H's flat to see the live pictures in utter disbelief. Also knowing full well such an event would "wake the giant" pearl harbour style.

Utd winning the treble. Three Tuns pub, at the bar, stood on my stool, banging on the ceiling amid a crowd of other lunatics.

Murray winning Wimbledon. Sat right here actually. ::)

Apparently I did see the moon landings, but was too young to remember. In Pinner.

I was aware, when I returned to my office, of female colleagues in tears at this expectation, thought it myself too...........

Nightshift Trafpol for Dianas death.  Watching the then confused and uncertain events unfold on the muster room telly whilst grabbing a sarny and a cuppa.

Just off the ranges at Bisley for the end of the Police rifle shooting comp and watching 9/11 on the telly at St Georges Lodge over a couple of beers and a very hushed assemblage of cops from far and near.....

I may have only been 3 years old but I'd already downed a bottle of scotch that day, so nothing, human or animal, was 'off limits'... ;D ;D ;)

On 9/11 my wife and I were checked in at Heathrow waiting to go to New York and then on to Bermuda. I got a call from my office to get to a TV screen. It was all kicking off but BA info was that flight was going to depart. It took a couple of hours to retrieve luggage. We went to Italy instead a day later.

Apollo moon landing - at a girlfriends in Ashby de la Zouch doing what boys and girls do in front of the TV

Berlin wall down - in Dusseldorf in a bar helping the West Germans drown their sorrows (the general feeling there was that it would financially cost them dear)

JFK assasination - in a pub in Dulwich Village

Had been on a German exchange trip to Steinfeld in the Eifel Mountains in late October '89. You could tell summat was about to happen as we were held up for two hours at the Border on the way into (then) West Germany...

Went back the following year and you couldn't hear anything except... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KcRl1p2waM which I can't stand to this day :-\

... and this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYVi7n7aoB4 which is just plain wrong, but I like it ::)

* Teacher Dick Mountjoy gave classmate 'Lanky' Griffiths and I 'six of the best' in front of an astonished class of 8 year-olds :o
