Cheers Chris. :y

Been tooooooo hot today to play but will disconnect battery for an hour in the morning and then see on refit if the audio disc comes out..fingers crossed.

Will then remove HU and have a good look at the gps connection on the back to understand what it looks like and see if anything is damaged. As said might make up a short patch lead of rg58 with a sma connetion on one end to join up to that on new gps aerial and find out what coupling is required on the back of the HU to join into. That way I have totally bypassed any of the original gps aerial cables just cable from HU to aerial and see if that picks up,which in theory it should  :P.then go from there with the ejecting disc problem

Its not a BNC, cant remember what is is, but the connector is easily pulled off or broken if the HU is yanked about, as said in previous topics an easy connection test is to see if it has + Voltson the centre pin to feed the GPS Antenna from the foot well.  :y

Laser available from a few euroland sources online. Not aware of anyone who repairs these units any more, due to age.

Just need to establish if that is the fault and a local man to fix it if it is.

Onward and upwards ah   ;D

Just curious but what would be expect cost to replace for an ice guy assuming I can find one upto the task

Well progress of sorts  ??? ::)

Have succesfully managed to crimp SMA connector to the cut end of the gps aerial lead and joined to new aerial.Green GPS signal in top r/h corner is now lite but unit is still saying on the l/h side that navi is inactive.

On inserting the disc is whirls and makes a noise but after around 15 seconds the disc gets spat out.The disc then gets drawn back into the unit and the cycle goes around again although after 3 or 4 attempts message appears saying.."disc cannot be read ..please clean cd error".

From previous advise this is now seeming to point to faulty laser ? as disc is thoroughly clean.  Dont want to re insert an audio disc as last time it stayed in the unut for 3 days before mysteriously getting ejected whilst I was driving.

Obviously was chewing on it to see if it liked your choice of music, then decided it didn't.  ;D

And while you had the GPS plug apart, did you measure the centre pin for voltage?

Was quite worried ,Chris,as it eat decent disc of Zepplin and yes it was an original  ;D...Pleased to say it did eventually squirt it back out. :)

Whilst cables were apart I checked voltage as advised from outer to inner and was getting 5 volts. That was confirmed again at terminal end prior to connecting to gps aerial so assume  no power issues going from HU to aerial.
