Fault Codes (3.2)
« on: 22 August 2014, 20:02:40 »

Hey you crazy lot.

It's been a while since I've been on OOF - mainly due to a nasty accident I was involved in (not in the car) and the Omega being stood up for a while.

Anyways - I'm back to good health and the Omega is back on the road.  MOT passed without advisory and all was perfectly well, until yesterday.

She started first time, everytime on the button - no exceptions.  But now, I can start her 10 times and once in those ten I'll get a slow turn-over but she always fires.

I suspected the battery so took some readings - Battery voltage is 12.4V when off.  This rises to 13.8V when switched on and idling.  When I add some load - Heated seats on full, Heated rear screen, front and rear fogs, HIDS on and full beam the reading is 14.2v on idle.

So I am very lost.  At the same time, the EML has showed it's ugly face and I have a multitude of codes which don't really make sense.  When the car is running, it runs perfectly fine..... drives perfectly fine..... it is normal.

P0161 (4) 02 Sensor Heater Circuit Open (Bank 2 Sensor 2) - Present
P0161 (8) O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2) - Present
P0141 (8) O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) - Not Present
P0607 (C) Knock Sensor Circuit - Not Present
P0136 (4) O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 2) - Not Present
P1613 (0) Immobiliser No Or Wrong Signal - Not Present
P0560 (8) System Voltage Malfunction - Not Present

I'll admit this data came from the Code Reader that we can't speak of.

Any ideas?

Of course, I've checked all the usual earth straps, battery connections and connections to the Alternator.  All are in tip-top shape with no corrosion.

Thank you in advance for your replies - I'm sorry I haven't contributed in the recent past, but as above, I'll be back here to annoy you all again!  ;D

Whats the battery voltage after being left for several hours without being started?

For now, just clear all those codes and see what comes back. Then in a few days (without clearing any codes) check the LTFT for both banks.

Hi TB, thanks for the reply.

Battery Voltage this morning was 11.97V  :-[

I tried clearing the codes yesterday, but they return immediately (same codes).

The O2 sensors (1) on both banks continuously switch from Rich to Lean.
The O2 sensors (2) on both banks are constant Lean.
LTFT are a constant 1%

Certainly seems the battery is due for replacement - Would this cause erroneous codes?

Fix the known faults first :)

Next thing, **disconnect** the battery and leave overnight and see if the voltage drops in the same way - basically prove if battery is discharging itself, or has a drain.

Bit concerned about LTFT, as these should reset to 0%, even with your crap code reader, when the codes are cleared. Keep an eye on these. **Note, made assumption this is not LPG**.  Once all is working, if the LTFT drift from 0%, provide the values for the MAF at idle, A/C on and A/C off.

Thanks again TB - I have placed a Multimeter in series on the 0V side of the battery and it is reading a very steady 0.25A when all doors are closed etc (courtesy lights off).  I think this to be about normal?

I'll disconnect the battery tonight and get another reading in the morning.

Your assumption is correct, no LPG so nothing that should mess with the FT's.  After the battery test tonight, I'll leave it well alone for a week and then read the FT's again.  Do you think this is sufficient time to get a satisfactory reading?  I only do short journeys of 6-10 miles a day, twice a day and maybe a ~30mile roundtrip once or twice a week.

I have ordered a battery from ECP, it's a cheapy Lion battery currently on offer at £47.  My budget at the moment won't stretch to my preferred Bosch or Varta, but it wont be delivered until Tuesday.  Should I fit this on Tuesday or leave it until I get some readings in a week or two's time (at your recommendation)?

In terms of MAF readings...... the Air-Con is low on gas, the HP filler valve is leaking.  I have a new one sat here, it's getting around to re-gassing that's the problem.  I appreciate you hate people like me who have potentially numerous faults but are unable to strategically work through them because something else crops up, but I do very much appreciate your help.  :y

250mA seems high. Does it stay this high after 20 mins (consumer timer is 15 mins IIRC)
