Yes but all cars have there faults, you could say omegas suffer with blocked oil strainers, failing coil packs, leaking cam gasket covers and the most awkward engine I have ever had the pleasure to work on. My last 2 cars were bmws that never went wrong and a 530d that I use at work that never goes wrong. Plus I have never had a problem with the BMW parts network. And only a fool would use any dealers service network. Plus I'm not looking for anything newer than a 2006 as that's when all car manufacturing went down hill.

Why bother :-\ it will cost about 10 times what your Omega is worth, be no cheaper to run when you consider parts and tyre costs and given the likely mileage it will drive like a soggy Labrador  ::)

I think omegas were the last real car vauxhall made.

Those were the exact words that the dealer I called into today to get some oil filters from said to me!

Hmmmmm.

If I were to drive from here (Bristol) to Scotland, or Spain, or Outer Mongolia, which out of the two cars I own would I take?

Both would get there without mechanical failure (touch wood)
Both would be pleasing to drive
Both are more than suitable

I'd take the Omega.  It's more comfortable.  It's quieter.  It's not a better car.......... the BMW would trounce it on B roads, and lets face it, neither were designed for B roads, but the 535i would give a Civic Type R a decent run on B roads.  The Omega would shit itself at the first corner.

Both have their place on my drive and both have their place in my heart.  Ahhh, 'dangle berries' - I lied.  The Omega is the better car.

FOR ME.

Well quite.... If you want one, buy one because you like it. My only objection to your previous statement is the inference that BMW engines are worthy of note for being well made/exceptionally reliable. They're not.  Just like all VW engines aren't "bulletproof"... and all Volvo engines don't do "at least 300k miles maaate".   ::)

I quite fancy an E38 740i (because I always have done and you only live once), but if I do get one I'm not going to live the lie that it's any less of a swine to keep on the road than an Omega. Different problems yes, and nearly all more expensive to resolve   :(

Whether or not you choose to use the dealer service network, you'd still be supporting a brand that regularly sticks two fingers up to it's overcharged customer base.  Which is not the case with some other brands.

Well this had really opened a can of worms. I want an BMW 5 series estate because I want a big boot a power full engine and cheap to run. And let's face it compared to my 2.6 the 3.0d would get me more mpg especially after remapping.
Plus the omega estate in my opion is very ugly and I would never be happy with it.

As for BMW parts they are no more expensive than omega parts for me as my sister works on the parts desk at woods in Bournemouth.
Hence why I want a BMW plus I don't really care how much it costs as I'm self employed and will write it of my income tax.

I need a very large boot for work and push chairs ect and if any body can come up with a better solution is gladly hear it.

Not a jag as they are fords with a different badge, been looking at a merc e320 d but I just can't get over how ugly the front lights are.

To me a car must look good as well as tick all the practicality boxes. Plus my omega is going to be my new drift slag so will need a spare car soon.

An Omega estate will carry a third more stuff than any 5 series tourer ever could, and has more passenger space, so all you are actually doing is buying a smaller more expensive car... Makes no sense... whichever way you slice it :-\

Still, given your closing sentence maybe the Bm will suit you better :-X

No, you'll write ~20% of the total cost off your tax bill, which is not the same as to say "it doesn't matter how much it costs".  ::)

Nice car, although expensive in relative terms.  Far preferable imo to modern BMW. Avoid sensotronic brakes though.

I don't claim 20% I claim 45p per mile and this tax year so far I've done 10000 miles working out at £4500, less £2000 in fuel, £1300 in cost of car and maintenance leaves a nice profit of £1200

Agreed 😃

No I'm an omega owner and do appreciate that they are great car and good looking, I just don't like the estate versions

Well the jags in my price range are built on a Mondeo chassis with mondeo engines.

I'll keep that in mind thanks.

A BMW 5 series does have a smaller load space but only by 30 litres not a third. Just don't like the look of the omega estate.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend you or anyone else on this forum and if I have I am generally sorry, this forum is fantastic and got me out of trouble on many an occasion.
But the time has come for me to replace my omega as my daily run around due to me doing a high millage job and need a car that I can rely on, maybe a not BMW as I'm sure it will never live up to the omega.
