Hmmm... Call me suspicious, but £500 discount AND a years ticket... :-X

If they were doing the MOT themselves I would be very suspicious. Instead they are using the garage across the road, one I have used many times for my Omega come MOT time.

They are always more than strict when I take my car there. :y

Of course.......they could always be 'bezzie mates' and therefore willing to turn a blind eye.

As a recovering previous Alfa owner ( 2x 164 v6's, 2x 156 v6's :)) some observations; all my Alfa's were reliable and never needed anything other than routine servicing (unlike my miggy >:() - my '98 156 v6 had done 150,000 miles and ran beautifully.
However, best buy from an enthusiast/owners club member, these cars need to be cherished and pampered, FSH is essential. Cambelts MUST be changed every 60,000mile or every 4 years, together with tensioners - also make sure the water pump has been changed to a metal impeller one rather than the standard plastic. Suspension arms and bushes never last long. Never had a problem with electrics - all the toys on my '96 164 worked, even the heated seats and folding mirrors!
Would avoid the auto - the 2.5 v6 needs to be worked and it's worth it to hear the Busso v6 at 7,000rpm - automotive porn with a decent S/S exhaust!
Couple of cheeky pics of my old ones;

Thanks, Pete.

Very informative.

I will say that it made a beautiful noise when given the beans. However, I was less than impressed by the 'slow witted' auto box.  :y

A good indie, such as The Alfa Workshop or Autolusso will charge about £450-£500 for belt and tensioners, worth getting the plugs done as well, about another £60. Needs a locking tool as it's very easy to get the timing off by a tooth or so, a bit of a PITA I believe as access is not brilliant.

So, with a cambelt change and 4 new tyres I'd be looking at £2000 for a 56 plate car with 12 months MOT.

This is the amount a local trader is asking for  a 2006 (56) Alfa 156 V6. I've not had the time to check it out but I believe the V6 lump is of the 2.5 litre variety and not the muscular 3.2.

Buy or walk on by?

Have I missed something? have you not got the Big Merc anymore....... :-\ :-\ ::) :-[
