My Turn For a Fault
« on: 08 November 2014, 22:32:39 »

Just been shops With two heated seats on.Rear window heater on.. lights on and fan blowing full blast.

Noticed the Batt light on the dash was on. It was very dim, And when i took the load off it, Then it went all the way out.

Had new battery in the summer, So my first thoughts.(well only thought) is that the rectifier/diodes ETC in the Alternator Are ready to call it a day.
But then the load the electrics were under was a lot.

Sitting in the garage is a ready to go alternator from omegod bought 6 months ago from that 2.2 he broke..

Do you think i will be unwrapping that for xmas  :-\

Is the +ve to the battery hot/warm? It could be the crimped connector that's iffy. My mfl did the same but I managed to borrow a heavy duty sized crimper from work & tightened the joint a bit. It sorted the dim lamp!  :y :y

Indeed. First things first. Check all the connections between engine, battery and chassis ground.

Went out on say half a mile drive and then stopped car and got my hands around battery terminal connection like Andyb said.

Though they were not hot, They were both Definitely warm,With like that dry crud stuff around the + connector, So tomorrow i will have them off and give them a good clean up and re Crimp Them.

While under the bonnet decided to get the volt meter across the battery .

Engine off....         12.7 volts
Engine ticking over 14.3 volts

Q When parked say 4 feet in front of garage door with car ticking over... When i rev the car, Should headlights get brighter  :-\

Halogens will always react a little.  It shouldn't be a significant change though.
