Brake switch
« on: 29 November 2014, 13:19:47 »

Fitting cruise to the 2.5, but it doesn't have the correct brake switch and I don't current have the correct one with my kit.

Getting it out despite being very careful, pulling the pin out against the ratchet and sliding the sleeve forward, both retaining clips snapped so now I have no brake lights!

The 2.2 is poorly in other ways so would the brake switch on there be the same? If so how on earth to I get it out it out without damage?

Any advise appreciated.

Local motorfactors might carry stock, but possibly too late being Saturday :-\

Not recommended, but a spot of araldite on each corner or cable ties :-\

Thanks - will give a couple of places a go if it's not a VX specific part  :y

I'm loathed to touch the 2.2 as I can't see of its the same without taking it off and I ll probably end up with them both knackered!

A quick rummage on gaybay suggests it's available as a pattern part... be sure to take the old one as a reference  :y

As long as you get it mobile, you can then order the correct one for cruise at leisure...

Dorset Auto spares have one, but closed at 1 and GSF don't have them in stock in Poole :-(

A long shot, and again not my first port of call, but given your apparent location and being stuck...

As a very last resort try here...

http://www.wesellpolicecars.com/ used to deal with Omegas, and used to be a member here, but believe was banned :-\

Bearing all that in mind, could be worth a call :-\

2 woody removed one off one of my cars, having done several in the past. Even with all that experience it still broke. He said they are very difficult to remove without braking the tangs.

So it sounds like your absolutely right not to touch the spare I guess.

In lieu of the proper switch it is possible to bridge two terminals at the back (loom side) of the connector.
Not sure which two right now as it was 5 years ago I did mine, but I might get a chance to have a look later.
Not noticed any side effects either, drops out on brake application etc..

Pretty sure that was the first of many gems I've gleaned from here, though other forums have been perused :o
