Right, fine. I apologise for paying a lot for a nut!  :D I'm being as careful as I can with the pennies. In fairness, the car cost me £170, including 65 litres of petrol in the tank. The exhaust (that's the lot, excluding cat sections) cost £20, brand new Bosch HT leads for under £40, replaced every thin vac hose and cured an erratic idle for £3, a GM coil pack, bonnet and boot lifters, steering idler, HBV, barely used brake discs and pads - all for £20. I think the budget will stand (just checked on my service history part no 90570845) £3.88, not £7 as previously stated by myself (It was the half dozen exhaust clips I bought that day that were just under £7) I know now to fit standard nuts and washers.
We live and learn.  :y

For the manifolds I would always advise using the Vx nuts, the copper items with the steel inserts always come off, those that are replaced with steel have on two occasions resulted in a painful exercise of having to remove snapped studs in a very gynaecological fashion.....had they of sheared off flush with the manifold it would have been a manifold off exercise.

Well, I think it was you that advised me of this course, using genuine Vx nut, and for the reasons you have stated. As mentioned the other day, I've never gone wrong following your counsel. Where possible, I'm trying to use the best / original GM parts I can, all on a budget - as mentioned in my list. Trying to get prices down to the bare minimum when I can - but on certain items, I'm happy to pay up, because it's vital.  :) Again, Ta Mark

I'll get back to you all when I get a reply  ;)

I went to the local Opel dealer today to order the pins for my vented rear brakes.

The guy had to do some special trick with his computer to find them as individual parts. From the start they were only sold as a replacement package with pads, pins and springs.

Anyway I could order them and they had them at the central warehouse for GM parts here in Sweden.

Partnumbers:

Pins 919 50 55
Springs 919 50 56

And they weren't cheap £50 is what they cost here for 4 pins and 2 springs.

Can this be legal? >:(

Could you not re-use the old pins?

Well since there isn't any competition on just these parts they can charge what they want.

My old pins are rusty and the springs are broken  :'(

I'm about to to a complete brake overhaul on my Omega and will change everything, got all the parts from http://www.sparepartstore24.co.uk/ at a fair price and with a discount because it was a large order. Unfortunately the pins and springs can only be found at the GM-dealer.

Same as here and broadly the same price, not that that's any consolation  :-\
