2.5td elite headgasket gone + other issues
« on: 20 April 2015, 14:08:25 »

hi,

i recently saved a 2000 omega elite 2.5td manual saloon from scrap. the viscous had snapped off, and the previous owner was told he couldnt get one and scrapped it.

anyway, i know own the car, and want to fix it. it runs and drives, but when the fan snapped off, it blew the radiator, and after a check, the headgasket has gone  :'( :'(

i will be getting the work done, new headgasket, new radiator etc. im doing away with the viscous fan though.

do i need to replace the timing chain kit when i do the headgasket?

also, does anyone have or know where i can get a new pulley had bolts onto the waterpump? as   mines all chewed up again from the fan!

i also need all 3 rear black leather headrests again if anyone knows where i can get one from?

being mines a manual, once ive had the headgasket etc done, i will be getting it re-mapped - wheres best for that?

many thanks for any help!
cheers

Get in touch with The Boy for the chip as he knows where they are sourced from.

What mileage is it? Mine has done only 130K but well maintained and the timing chain is not noisy. Viscous units are available, I have a spare new one in my garage, - although if the cooling system is in good condition, they are not needed in the UK, unless perhaps towing in hot weather. :y

I'd be checking the head hasn't cracked before lifting a finger on anything else. It's a four valve head which can crack across the area between the valve seats.

I've never owned or worked on one, I just rember some old posts on here, so all I'm saying it's worth doing some homework and thorough investigations before spending any further.

Having said that anything is possible given enough determination, so fingers crossed :y
