Lies, damn Lies, and EPC
« on: 29 April 2015, 20:18:29 »

Grrrrr. Failed the MOT on leaking rear shox. Fair enough - so I order 2 off 72119084 which EPC lists as IDENT L3 chassis Y1000001 -> WITH MOUNTING PARTS.

Mounting parts for a saloon should be (p/n 90487540) which EPC says includes....

90447244 = 2 x upper & lower washers
90447245 = 1 x top mount lower rubber
90486006 = 1 x top mount upper rubber
90334270 = 1 x metal bush insert
11094313 = 1 x lock nut

The shock's duly arrive, and tonight I embark on the 'simple' job of fitting them. But, no! The shox boxes only include the upper and lower rubbers, and the lock nut. No sign of the upper and lower washers, or the metal insert bush, and the old ones are rusted solid to the old shox of course  >:(. What odds are there of my dealer having 90447244 and 90334270 in stock so I can complete the job tomorrow.

Are you saying 90334270 (the insert) is on back order? Or the whole kit? Not bothered about the washers - there is an omega elite estate in a local scrappy I can rob for them if necessary. There are a few other bits I need so I was going to pop into the local VX dealer tomorrow, but for-warned is forearmed.

Mick has two complete sets of 90487540, brand new and unfitted... See Cautionary Note thread in Gen Car Chat...

Ordered from Vx and they'll be a few days and you might need to buy a pack of five of each ;)

I've bagsied these hopefully  :)

See Cautionary Note thread in Gen Car Chat...

Yes - car is going into the body shop shortly for sills and rear wheel arches, but needs an MOT to get to the body shop, and the MOT runs out next week. So body shop can look at the turrets then, but just need any old 'bodge' to get it there.

So not "on back order" (i.e. many weeks wait) - just "got to come from Germany" i.e. a couple of days?

1. Nice one.

2. Was more as an explanation as to how they came to be available... ie the consideration of fitting non Gm shocks.

3. Don't know as not a Vauxhall Parts desk, last ones I ordered were a week away, believe Mick waited a while for his bits too :-\

Ah - ok. I'm using genuine Vx shocks - £80+VAT a pop, including (parts of!) the required mounting kits.

Ok - will see what Vx say tomorrow. Have searched EPC and the spacer/bush appears to be used on lots of other types - Corsa C, Astra, Carlton, Senator etc, so there is an outside chance they'll have it on the shelf (where's the flying pig emoticon?)

Lol... Be aware that saloon bushes are longer than estate, but I like the reasoning :y

I found a section on the new Astra J listing the other day where all the right hand side bumper brackets hadn't been listed!

UPDATE : All parts are available from Germany, so typically 5-7 days. The metal washers and bushes come in packs of 5.

I'm off up the scrappy at lunchtime to see what I can find. Wish I knew what a Corsa B or Vectra A was.

Bush length is critical.

Bush length is critical.

Yes, but same part number (90334270) is listed against various versions of Carlton V87, Senator V88, Omega B V94, Corsa B S93, Tigra S93, Astra T85, Astra T92, Astra Classic M99, Calibra C89 and Chavalier J82. My copy of EPC is EPC2001, so there may be newer models too.

Trouble will be telling the versions of Astra and Corsa apart, and then getting the old shox off to get the bush out. And sod's law says I'll have to remove 10 to get one good one since they'll be rusted on anyway. And the car I'm on will be under a pile of 3 others so impossible to lift to get at the bottom shock mount. And it'll be muddy, raining and cold. What could possibly go wrong  :P
