That's probably a bit unfair. Son of a friend of mine was sent along from the job centre and told, if he turned down the job, he would lose his benefits.

Friend of mine got in a bit of a mess and was on benefits for a while.  :(

The job centre did the same and he had to take this Call Centre job or lose his benefits.  He's been doing it for a few months now, earns reasonable money and really enjoys it!  :y

They're just folk earning a living at the end of the day and while it's fair game to play along with them for a while, being nasty to them isn't on IMO.  ;)

Sorry disagree completely , if I want to buy something it is my choice I do not want strangers ringing me on my phone trying either to get me to purchase something or more probably try to dishonestly obtain personal financial information from me.

Any good?
http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html

I find it helps after a month or so. Always seem to get calls around AA renewal time. First from the AA themselves, then from any Tom Dick or Harry they pass the number onto.

Anyway, link works for me on a domestic line, at least.

Trouble is, its an industry body, set up and run by the companies that make the calls. So they won't ever take action.

Whilst I believe it helped on one of my lines (apart from the recorded calls, which TPS doesn't cover), the other line increased sales calls since putting on TPS, and gets a barrage of recorded calls which it never used to get.  The cynic in me says they sell or pass on the database (as they would have to for it to work) and it becomes a valuable resource for the tele marketers.

I've yet to have these mongrels deal with any complaint.

I never asked them to call me. I don't want their calls.  I have registered that I don't want their calls. I have no sympathy for any abuse these people get.

If it annoys you all that much, I'll stop making the calls.

.    Agree with you 100% I have had 3 calls in the last 2 hours  I spoke utter nonsense to a woman with an Indian accent  ranging from have I won the car I'm so excited I'm pissing my pants  & then I asked questions about her parents she seemed puzzled when I asked if her father had recovered after being mauled by a tiger. She rang off eventually but called back again after about 10 minutes , I asked if the Indian restaurant had received our booking for Saturday & she hung up again.

How on earth do these companies make any money ? Seems to me that their calls are either not answered or the callers are abused  :( What worries me more is if you do have a claim and tell them to opps off that they may make fraudulent claims in your name  :-\

I haven't ever complained. But a month after registering, no more calls.

Like you I was sceptical about entering my number on another site, but how else? As said a blame the AA in my case, it's a yearly cycle.
