It runs, got it home.  Story's not over yet, so I'll be back later with more.

Car is now running fine, except temp guage not working.  Must have knocked wire off of sensor.

Scuttle came off easily once I knew what to do.  Spent another 2hrs trying to fish out old sensor cable and run new one.  Ended up cutting out the old one leaving the connector wedged in the oil lines by the filter.  Ran the new one down the side by the exhaust manifold.  Now that I know there aren't any other choices, I could do it in 15mins.

None of my new sensors exactly matched the old one.  Put in the cheapest one first and it worked.

I was not amused being up to my waist under the first car after a roundabout with everyone flooring it out of the roundabout.  Had the hazards on and a wheelie bin set out like a cone.  When I did finish the battery was dead.

I will take some pictures for the scuttle guide and a crank sensor guide when I take the scuttle off to plug the temp sensor back in.  Meanwhile it seems to idle better without it.

Oh, and Autovaux are useless lying sacks of cr@p.  More later AFTER I get my refund from them.

Once I figure out all of the part numbers for my car, I will happily deal with VX for all of my parts.  4 days for Autovaux to ship parts they said they had on the shelf is just ridiculous, especially when the car was dead.  Problems with the car itself would have been tolerable except for the ludicrously terrible service on trying to get parts.  My g/f wants me to get rid of the car b/c of the frustration, but the car isn't what's been unexpectedly problematic.

I went to my Vx dealer to enquire about a set of plug leads. I had engine size, year and model derivative(obviously). He asked me for the reg no, then the VIN no, which I gave him.....Nope, need engine no as well.  For f*cks sake, a set of plug leads!!!! >:(

That's ok, I went to Halfords once with a dead king lead.  Said "I want a king lead this long or longer."  The kid asked for my car details and proceeded to say that he would have to order the entire set for my car, despite having racks of various King leads behind him. :-?  I found one that would work in 30 seconds.  ;)
