Zig Zag lines
« on: 14 June 2015, 19:20:45 »

Heres a question, which I think will only be answerable by the Police officers on here.....

I know your not allowed to stop on them.....ie to the right of the zig zag line

Question is ....If there is a pull in to the left of the zig zag line.....so you've stopped on the left of the line...ie you open the drivers door, look down and see the zig zag line.

I understand why the zig zag lines.....so that your not blocking a pedestrians view of the traffic approaching the crossing....but if your to the left of the zig zag...they can still see around you...

I am prerty sure that parking on the pavement, even temporarily, is frowned upon... ::)

If the area where you park is properly laid out, kerb has been moved etc then the fact that there is pedestrian controlled lights there is immaterial. There are lots of examples around and the white zig zag lines are to your right as you park in the correctly laid out parking area.  :y

If I knew how to post photos on here, I'd post an example.

If you put Mill Hill Broadway railway station into Google Earth and close in, just to the right of the motorway is the white roof of a bus. Drop into Street View at the bus and you will see a Range Rover, a Golf and a few others legally parked as I've described.

Al, was this the kind of set up you were describing ?

I think you mean Dave...

My reponse was from the image that Dave had created... I could just picture him parked on the pavement wondering why the zig zags were there ;D

Its certainly un-enforceable, even has a parking sign next to the R-Rover saying when you can park & how to pay. Where as the other side of the carriageway has 'Loading only' ??? ??? ???

Think someone cocked up there in the Highways dept.  ::) Wouldn't be the first time  ;D

Try this link....you may need to click on the 'hide imagery' tab.... you can fit a car in there off the zig zags....to the left of the pug...

It's a Tigra, and it used to be a junction, made obselete by the bollards across the nice newly bricked side road... ergo that area that you park in is, to all intents and purposes, the pavement ::)

Umm wrong, as you can see its a fairly new construction...same age as the red brick buildings....it has edgings in the road that run along the zig zags....they are same age as red brick buildings....if the highways didn't want vehicle access to that part of the 'pavement' why not put in kerb stones and bring the 'pavement' back upto pavement level ??. Also the white building which is a pub wouldn't have been too happy with a 'previous junction' that ran through their beer garden!
You can also see double yellow lines painted to left side of said area.....leading me to believe that ive got 5 mins on them (if I should choose to stop there).
The bollards where put there shortly after construction....as theres a carpark at the end of the paved area and some muppet drivers were using it as a short cut to the car park  ;)

Is it? im afraid I disagree....why did the council install pedestrian anti slip measures either side of the gap, like they do where pavement meets road ?

If you look to the right hand side of the pub......theres the same thing....but no zigzags...just double yellows......so that where I stop if dropping/picking up at the pub  ;)

Question is about the zig zags in this occasion.....

The drop curb etc was presumably installed to service the 'junction'... This is clearly a moot point now as the 'road' is blocked off. The pavement, being part of the main road is then reinstated when the bollards were installed. Leaving the talse junction as it is was obviously far cheaper than rebuilding the curb. But I stand by that area being considered pavement and not a layby or road :-\

Be interesting to see what Broccie or Jason would say about it... :y

Have you ever seen yellow double lines painted....after it was obviously altered on a pavement??
