Temp sensor really confused
« on: 10 July 2015, 15:01:30 »

Hi I am a bit confused I had the car serviced by a Vauxhall specialist and asked them to look a cold start issue and non functioning gauge. They reported a failed sensor which talks to the ecu, they replaced this and had no problems with cold starts since and the gauge worked as well. About a month later the gauge stopped working again so sent it back to them to fix as I had already paid for it, They have just called me to say the sender sensor has failed in the V and not covered by the first repair and want more money to fix it. How many sensors are there? I feel I being played here, its the not the money its the principle, I have read the site and thought both sensors were in the V. Any advise appreciated as the sensors appear side by side.

There are two sensor for coolant temp... one for the ECU with a proper plug, and one for the gauge with a spade connector on it.

The gauge issue is probably caused by the garage either knocking or misconnecting the gauge sensor wire during the replacement of the ecu sensor rather than failure of the gauge sensor... proving it would be tricky though :-\

Basically they are correct that it has two separate sensors, but I would be wary of their second diagnosis  ::)

Good to report I got result thanks to the pictures on this site, took my laptop spoke to the service manager who was taken aback by my visit. Offered to do the job for just the sensor price and offered to service my other car for free when the MOT comes due next month.
