Z147 /157 paint shades
« on: 26 July 2015, 09:14:55 »

Does anybody know if the Z157 silver is very slightly lighter or very slightly darker than the Z147 ?

The reason I am asking is that on the "new"  '02 silver elite is Z157 but  the rear N/S  quater panel looks slightly lighter shade than the rear passenger door  . . . .but

Working your way from that rear  N/S quarter panel forwards , the rear door ,as said looks very slightly darker but that looks spot on with the front passenger door, front wing, bumper, bonnet, o/s wing, drivers door, o/s rear door, o/s rear quarter ,the  boot & the roof . The boot then seems to match perfectly with this "slightly lighter" n/s rear quarter panel . . .Weird eh ?

It is just that when looking at the rear passenger door next to the rear quarter there seems to be a very slight shade difference

If the rear door had been replaced with a Z147 door then surely it would show against the front passenger door  :-\ :-\

This rear passenger door has the only bit of rust on the whole car , so was planning to replace it anyway with a Z157

the bottom line question is  . . .has anybody fitted a 147 panel or door onto a 157 car ?  & is the difference quite noticable?

TIA      Al :y

On mine (157) I`ve fitted  a rear nearside door, rear offside door moulding and boot spoiler all in 147 and notice no difference whatsoever

There's variations in Z157, at one time I had two Z157 52 plate saloons and when parked next to each other the shade was very slightly different, I can only assume one was parked in a garage and the other left in the sun. The cars were within 100 of each other on the VIN plates so were built at a similar time.

TBH, after at least 10years, there will be a lot of variances.  The replacement panels on TBE (following the garage incident), although Z157, do not match the rest of the car.

Silver is the hardest colour to match when painting, and the difference between the two rare omega silver is not noticeable to untrained eye,I would assume yours has had some paint, hence the slight difference.,
I have a 147 bonnet and mirrors, rest car 157 not noticeable, friend who's a painter can tell. :P

Ok then  . . . seems there is no really  noticeable difference then . So will try & search out a Z157  saloon rear passenger door  as there is a small rust patch about 50p size (quite bad ) on the bottom corner..

Thanks for your replies  :y :y

You need to view it under good natural light, ie strong Sun light, and then at an angle rather than head on, 157 has a hint of bronze reflection, 147 a hint of grey blue.

But as said, when mixed on the same car, some look better than others, others can stand out like a sore thumb.

Yes thats it Chris  . . .   this rear N/S door has hint of bronze , best way I can think of describing it is  . .  like it's been in a room with several smokers for a while , meaning a nicotine sort of haze on it .Or it could be the laquer yellowing slightly I suppose  :-\ But it's strange as you go around the car from that point , there is no noticeable difference until you get back to that one door  against the rear  quarter panel:-\ :-\

More noticeable under street lighting at night though  :( :(   replacement door may sort it I hope  :y

From memory Z147 has a smidge of black in the mix and 157 doesn't.
