Front Brake Bleed Nipple
« on: 02 August 2015, 00:02:28 »

It's rounded off, a socket can free it, but no room/space for drain tube.

To replace can you just unscrew old one, then screw in a new one, even with fluid pouring out?

Also are they universal? Where is a good source?

Cheers

Fronts - M8 x 1.25
Rears - M8 x 1.00
see http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=129073.msg1653607#msg1653605

never got to the bottom of the right length but longer ones will fit, shorter ones might not

hose clamps are very cheap and will allow you to swap the nipples

If you're quick you'll not lose much fluid, but clamping the hose helps make sure  :y

I had to do my brake nipples recently. Bought a Gunsons Eezibleed kit which made life real easy. It uses the pressure from your spare wheel to make sure there is fluid in the reservoir whilst you bleed. Be careful with the nipples. Wire brush off any rust around them and use penetrating oil overnight. They are ridiculously easy the snap off when you try to undo. Good company for the spare nipples brakeparts.co.uk

Never use an open ended spanner to shift a seized bleed nipple - it rounds the flats off....  I use the ring end of a combination spanner.

Once the nipple is free to move put the drain tube on {with the spanner in place} and you can use the spanner as a tap handle.

Were you using the correct spanner when it rounded?

if all youre doing is a pad change you can bleed at the line. i.e. just undo the brake line banjo bolt enough to let fluid past and push the piston back and have the fluid ooze out that way.....ive done this once on a car with a rounded off brake bleed nipple with no problem at all :)

Mine was a serious question... Can't for the life of me remember what they're called, but essentially a six face ring spanner with an open face smaller than the side so that all six points drive the hex on the union/nipple :-\

Bit late now but, as others have said wire brush ya nipples(o er stemo) spray with penetrating oil, use a 9mm ring spanner, and buy new nipples to replace old ones with.
