2001 Elite 2.6 Front Suspension Change
« on: 07 August 2015, 18:24:31 »

Ok I have every intention of replacing my front shocks and springs tomorrow morning on my 2.6 elite, however as there is no how 2 I've had to revert to the dreaded Haynes.

Is there any tips of what not to do/should do before I commence. She's going in the air shortly and wheels coming off ready for work to commence first thing, then she will have had a complete new suspension 👍😬

Is it just shocks and springs or wishbones etc too?

Strut change is pretty straight forward but be aware that they are rather heavy... with the car jacked, but before removing the wheels, use a suitable socket to measure the camber, then use the same socket to set the camber on the new struts...

This will be less vague if you're only changing the shocks, but if also fitting new wishbones etc ALL the settings will be knocked out ;)

The wishbones were done last month, so it's just shocks and springs.

I was just going to mark around the strut so I know where to refit using a paint pen. But it needs to go in for full setup after anyway as its not been done since the wishbones were done plus s steering idler is shot and Im waiting for a lemforder to arrive which there saying will be Tuesday, so I was hoping that as long as I'm pretty near it can be adjusted then.

Marking the struts doesn't really work... you'll see why when you start, but basically the only bit to mark meaningfully is on the strut, which you're changing ::)

Socket method works well as it's infinitely repeatable, just bear in mind that you'll likely need a different socket for each side ;)

Just done mine, and the socket method worked well, see the posted readings http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=130730.90 which show how close I got. Haynes says remove caliper, no need, just remove the top caliper mounting bolt in order to remove the lower strut bolt. :y
