Parking sensors
« on: 15 September 2015, 12:56:46 »

Bought some parking sensors , not for 99p either  ::) Instructions say put wires through  headlining trim or door trim near the sill , whats going to be easiest ?
Does the wire for the beeper need to go to the front of the car ? Maybe fix it near parcel shelf  :-\

The sensors on my Omega made an annoying beeping noise and nothing else. :-\

Not factory fit I should add.

Those cheapo bolt on systems are usually bit shite, try retro-fitting GM's Park Pilot system from an late Elite breaker here if you can. Much better  :y

Never done it, but for ease of access I'd be tempted to go via the trim behind the grab handles, it's only a few screws if you ever need to access the wires again. The old man fitted one to his Vauxhall Insignificant and put the buzzer away I think in/around the boot, so keeping the beeping sub-annoying decibelage. You can easily hear them, so no need for them to be in the next to your ear as such, far too noisy. Perhaps a 'trial and error' thing, you may find inside a doorcard will work best for you, for example.

They should change on distance? On the Omega:

Put in reverse = Single beep (tells you system is working)
It's then silence, until you get close to an object, then it will start beeping. The beeps get quicker, depending how close you get. Constant tone = stop

Omega one is generous, can usually get closer even after constant tone.

That was my thinking  ;) But ill have to try it out first to see if i can hear it and if its ok there will be no need to feed the wires to the front of the car  :)

Piece of piss to route the wiring.

Box goes on inner wing in front of spare. Only trim that needs shifting is the side bolster on the back seat, loosen the screws on the C pillar trim, the rear bumper and the panel across the back of the boot.

On the estate, you only need to shift the trim under the side window in the boot, the bumper and the trim panel over the tailgate latch.

Read the manual?  ::)

"Manual Disable-The parking assist system can be disabled through the parking assist switch or audio system personalisation menu."

I shall wire it all up and see how loud the alarm is . It says in the manual that the beeps change from slow to fast then solid tone so will see how much that pierces my ears while its in the boot on its own ;D

I bought a cheap set when I had my silly fibreglass rear bumper, cost £13. They work very well, wiring is all in he boot from the reversing light cables, speaker located behind rear seat. When reversing they go bleep - - -bleep - - -bleep, then bleep-bleep-bleep, then continuous bleep, then CRUNCH.

Thanks to Joff for selling me a bumper with some bounce in it.
