« on: 24 September 2015, 18:16:48 »

Ok so my omega has projector lights so im looking at installing after market HID's .

Anyone recommend any kits and a rough idea on how installing it to an omega?  Fitted kits before but any tips for the omega would be useful.

Not to sure why you mention projector lights as then HIDS on the Omega are only installed for dipped beam use.

I would have thought best option would be to retro fit whole HID headlamps from another Omega whilst also considering the washer and auto levelling issue.

Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is you can only fit HID Bulb Kits as long as the appropriate front lenses have been upgraded to the OEM spec, or have things now changed on that one?.

Dodgy area, as DfT do not allow retrofitting (the hoops to jump through are unviable).  Its not really tested at MOT though, any unclear what the old bill can/can't do.

I'd go down the line of using genuine Omega HID headlights, fitting the washer units and headlight levelling. *IF* you must have HIDs that is.

Personally, if I had projector halogens, I'd fit the road legal Nightbreakers/Vision+ bulbs, and save a shit load of hassle. Esp as Omega HIDs are still shite. The halogen projectors can be made virtually as good :y

Sorry yes i have halogen projectors.

Not worried about the  dodgy area il take my chance.  headlight washers and levelling. mehh its a grey area im not worried.

To be honest ive always been unsure of these night vison bulbs. to be honest the HID kits are the same sort of money.

However if the HIDs dont work well wth the omega i may just go with the bulbs.

Without wanting to be contrary, but have you ever driven at night, to find someone is coming at you with main beam on? It's annoying, and causes your eyes to lose their night vision. It's especially remarkable when that occurs shortly before a corner on a twisty country road you're unfamiliar with, and you have to start the corner 'guessing' until your vision comes back.

On holiday I was dazzled, in town. After the blinking and squinting I then find a bloke walking blindly out in front of me. Just missed him, he either judged my speed to perfection, or didn't even notice/care and it was pure luck.

Would it be fair to request, for the benefit of all, that no-one attempting to upgrade their lights to HID have the attitude of "Not worried about the  dodgy area il take my chance" and "mehh its a grey area im not worried" this isn't just a case of legislation, ticking a box on a type approval in 1998 or whatever - it's safety. We all have to travel on the same roads, and there's enough delightful people cruising around with main beam on, without people fitting very high powered aftermarket HIDs, which are set up completely wrong, and dazzling every single vehicle they pass.

If anyone wants Xenons, they can fit the factory fit Omega setup, with levelling sensors. Other halogen alternatives are there, too. But please, please, don't think that sticking the automotive equivalent of two laser beams on your front end ends with your improved night vision - it's at the cost of everyone elses.

You're most, most welcome to ask as many questions regarding the proper fitment of the Vauxhall HID setup, and you'll even probably get the parts off here for next to nothing. I've got a couple of used, but decent Xenon bulbs I can lay my hands on, too.  :y

You have to ask yourself why manufactures went to the hassle of installing washer systems, levelling sensors etc. They are needed, not only for you, but to stop dazzle to other drivers.

I've got both HIDs and projectors. Night breakers are quite close to HIDs.   :y

Quite right DBG, was driving home last night on a country road with some tw*t right up my chuff with lights pointing in opposite directions. Dimmed the int mirror but still got dazzled via door mirror. Was right chuffed when he pulled off after a few miles. Also didn,t seem interested in overtaking me when i slowed a bit. Perhaps he enjoyed pishing me off. :D

Having owned and driven may 1000,s of miles in Omegas fitted with std Xenon and Hid lights I hav to say Hids are without a doudt far supperior in light quality butbeam pattern.

Comparison is having best quality bulbs available, perfectly clean lenses and properly adjusted as I have always tried to acheive on all my cars.

Current Omega has Phillips OEM bulbs with Nightbreaker highbeam.Lenses are crystal clear and they are as good as any other car I have driven ...and that is numerous including BMW,s and Mercs

Complete set of 9, you start with the harshest and move through to the smoothest. I use them on all manner of things, to excellent effect.

Pop the lamps out, or mask round the outside, and you'll be fine! Theres similar pads included in the Megs kit, so either way you're getting abrasives near the paint ;)

I personally use the 3M kits, with great success. Pop in a drill, follow destructions, brick your pants, then stare in awe as it all comes good at the very last stage ;D
