ABS ECU change
« on: 28 September 2015, 19:36:00 »

Hi Entwood, here is my procedure to change the ABS ECU. I put it in a new thread hoping I can find it again if needed.
I. Unclip fuseholders above battery; remove battery.
2. Drain power steering fluid reservoir, remove reservoir. Try not to spill fluid on ABS ECU.
3. Release ABS metal hoses from clips on bulkhead behind ABS unit.
4. Unplug ABS ECU multiplug by pulling purple locking clip towards wing while wiggling connector. See picture.

5. Loosen 13mm ABS outside locating nut; remove 13mm inside locating nut and bend back heat shield to release ABS locating bolt.
6. Grasp ECU assembly firmly, raise it a bit to release it, then tilt front upwards to give access to ECU retaining screws. Support raised end.

7. Remove 6 torx screws holding ECU to ABS unit, visible in pics. Remove ECU. As you remove it, unplug cable beneath ECU to motor.

Replacement is reverse of removal. To replace multiplug start with purple locking strip fully out, then offer plug into socket, wiggle plug as you slide in locking strip. You can see in pics guides on outside of plug. Refill power steering fluid reservoir with new fluid. No need to bleed anything, hoses were not removed. On testing ABS light will go out after driving a short distance.

That was way I did it, but I needed to unplug the 3 round connectors near battery, but don't recall undoing any of the pipework behind ABS unit.

I read that as undoing the pipe clips to allow a bit more freedom of movement rather than actually disconnecting the plumbing...

But all seems perfectly reasonable :y Not a job I have yet had cause to do, mind. Fank duck :D
