Rear shocker lower bolts and washers...

...are they supposed to be asymmetrical? The ones I've done on the MV6 are, as are some on another members car. If so, why?

Maybe had a clout in their life? Not sure I noticed them being oval/squashed (I only did my rears a few months ago, had to pop them off again only a few weeks back to re-fit a spring, so all pretty fresh in my mind)

That all said, an oval washer does ring a bell, a bit, seem to think I've seen it before. Maybe on my last Omega, a FL.. Mine's a PFL.  :-\

I think they leave the factory like that... but can see no reason beyond a tray of one on the left, and the others on the right on the production line... :-\

Certainly the bolts are identical, as are the kit supplied washers... ie buy two kits, get a matching pair of washers...

That sounds about right. Some early BSA Bantams had slightly wobbly thick stripes on the tank, some thin and cleaner. The reason was there were two ladies who did the painting. One was careful, the other a bit slapdash and didn't mind rushing  :)

Ah, good old days of quality control...

I think I'll get the mismatched pair from this other member... Then I can have two matching pairs, and all is well! :)

haha, That's not the half of it. BSA actually lost count of how many Bantams they made  ::). It was probably the best selling bike in the world (now beaten by the Honda 50/125 etc I'm sure, but a record back then)

But yes, they actually lost count. It might be half a million, it might be 750,000. No-one knows. I think Geoff was on a tea break, and Dave was talking to the Union rep because he didn't like the shade of brown of his overalls to wear while he was on strike.  ;)

My dad used to have a BSA Bantam and a Goldie (goldstar).... but he preferred his 650 Bonneville  :y

Don't forget the management's part in it; they were too busy arguing about whether Cedric was worthy of access to the executive bog, and Rupert was desperately worried about the brand of whisky in the boardroom. Important stuff that had to be settled!!!
