auto gearbox oil change
« on: 31 October 2015, 08:51:06 »

Hello, Ive read the guide on changing the auto gearbox oil, I shan't do it but do I need to have it done?, 2.6 cdx. just on 80k miles. It runs very well and smooth. Ive recently spent 1300 on my car, new cam belt kit, aux belt, coolant, expansion tank, some new pipe that had to come from Germany, new key fob, full new service, less the sparks as they only done about 20k since new. I do however need to cam cover gaskits changed and I was thinking of getting those replaced and the auto gb oil in the spring. so do I just get it changed or have it checked first or leave it? what do you think? many thanks. Les.

and ........ re the cam cover gaskets. The general opinion is that pattern gaskets (that a garage will almost certainly use) don't last, they get brittle & then leak. OEM gaskets are expensive, but especially if you're paying someone else to do the job, they work out cheaper in the long run becasue you only do them once.

lol, 1300 more than my car worth, I forgot to mention new water pump too but the way I look at it is that if the car dies big time its not then worth a penny, then Id have to pay to get rid of it and then look and pay for a new car etc and I cant be bothered and I like my car, it hefty on the fuel but everything else is great and solid and comfy.

What do you call hefty  ??? Town driving maybe a little hefty especially if it dont get up to temperature but shouldn't be too bad on a long run  :y

I drove my wife's auto C3 petrol 1600 yesterday. She drives a couple of miles to work & back 3 times a week and the trip mpg was showing 24.8mpg so much for a smaller car doing better mpg. My 3.0 Oemage used to do 20/21 around town & my 3.0 Merc (diseasal) does around 27
